HIMSS Analytics Honors Texas Health Alliance with Stage 7 Award

CHICAGO (December 20, 2012) – HIMSS Analytics recognizes Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Alliance (Texas Health Alliance), in Fort Worth, Texas, with its Stage 7 Award. The award represents attainment of the highest level on the Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM)?, which is used to track EMR progress at hospitals and health systems.

HIMSS Analytics developed the EMR Adoption Model in 2005 as a methodology for evaluating the progress and impact of electronic medical record systems for hospitals in the HIMSS Analytics™ Database. There are eight stages (0-7) that measure a hospital’s implementation and use of information technology applications. The final stage, Stage 7, represents an advanced patient record environment. The validation process to confirm a hospital has reached Stage 7 includes a site visit by an executive from HIMSS Analytics and former or current chief information officers to ensure an unbiased evaluation of the Stage 7 environments.

Texas Health Alliance is a 50-bed, multi-service hospital offering acute care and wellness services to residents of North Fort Worth. The hospital, which opened in September this year, is part of the faith-based, nonprofit Texas Health Resources health care system. The hospital’s services include emergency medicine, women and infant services, neonatal intensive care, imaging, physical therapy, surgery, cardiac rehabilitation, occupational health, and wellness programs. Texas Health Alliance opened with a fully integrated electronic health record and computerized physician order entry, as well as many other innovative uses of technology to facilitate patient care delivery and care management by providers and clinicians.

“Being designated as a Stage 7 facility validates the commitment and dedication our care teams have to utilizing technology for improved patient safety, care coordination and ease of use for our caregivers.  It is also recognition for the entire Texas Health Resources family as we showcase the outcomes we have been able to achieve across the enterprise as part of our EHR journey,” says  Winjie Tang Miao, president of Texas Health Alliance.

“Texas Health Alliance has demonstrated all of the necessary EMR capabilities to achieve the Stage 7 Award recognition. The use of standardized content from the Texas Health Resources enterprise, gleaned from years of experience across all Texas Health hospitals, resulted in the rapid clinician adoption of the EHR in this brand new hospital facility. Texas Health Alliance demonstrated over 95 percent utilization of CPOE, driven predominately by well-designed order set content, along with advanced clinical decision support alerts that support best practice protocols,” says John P. Hoyt, FACHE, FHIMSS, Executive Vice President, HIMSS Analytics. “Texas Health Alliance also demonstrated the use of an enterprise data warehouse environment that is used to monitor and manage best practice alerts as well as core measures as well as a high level of patient safety with its closed loop medication administration environment. Texas Health Alliance serves as a great role model for other U.S. hospitals to emulate for improving patient care, safety, and quality.”

As of Quarter 3, 2012, Texas Health Alliance is among the 103 U.S. facilities, or 1.9 percent, of the more than 5,000 U.S. hospitals in the HIMSS Analytics® Database, to be awarded the HIMSS Analytics Stage 7 Award.

The hospital will be recognized at the 2013 Annual HIMSS Conference & Exhibition in New Orleans, La., on March 3-7, 2013. Visit theHIMSS Analytics website for more information on the Stage 7 award.
