Find a Job in Health IT at HIMSS Virtual Career Fair

At the first HIMSS Virtual Career Fair on May 16, job seekers, employers and recruiters can connect to discuss health IT career opportunities

CHICAGO (April 9, 2012) – While employment in healthcare continues to rise, “with widespread gains throughout the industry,” according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, job seekers still need to connect with the right employer or recruiter…and vice versa.  Now, the first HIMSS Virtual Career Fair on May 16 will streamline that process for people on both sides of the online interview desk.

At this virtual event, job seekers can post a profile and resume, browse available health information technology positions, and even, chat, text or e-mail prospective employers. Job seekers can also spend time learning about the Certified Professional in Health Information and Management Systems credential, known as CPHIMS, via live webinars. In addition, topics presented during the day include:

• learning from tips, strategies and expert advice whether consulting is the right fit;
• developing a health IT career skill set; or
• understanding critical success factors for health IT job seekers.

Job seekers wondering how to prepare for the HIMSS Virtual Career Fair can follow the advice from the closing keynote speaker, James Brady, PhD, CISM, PMP, CPHIMS,
director, technical services, at Hawaii Health Systems Corporation in Honolulu, Hawaii.

• Identify what it is you are looking to achieve in your career. Try to identify at least 3-5 goals that you would like to pursue, and write these down.  The virtual career fair is not designed to tell you what you should be doing, where you should be working, or what career path is best for you.  You are the one to best determine this.

• Listen to each presentation with your identified goals in mind. You may hear certain principles or examples that resonate with your goals.  Listen for these and map them to potential next steps.

• Identify at least one follow-up action that you can take to achieve each of your 3-5 goals.

Take the time to join current discussions on sessions, speakers and more on Twitter (#HIMSSvirtual) or Facebook (facebook.com/HIMSSpage with JoAnn Klinedinst, CPHIMS, PMP, FHIMSS, vice president, professional development, HIMSS. The HIMSS Blog at blog.himss.org also offers posts on career development and job search from Helen Figge, RPh, PharmD, MBA, senior director, career services, HIMSS.
