TeraMedica®, Inc. Signs Agreement with SUNY Upstate Medical University based in Syracuse, NY, for its Evercore® – Enterprise Vendor Neutral Architecture (VNA)

TeraMedica’s Evercore Smartstore™ and Univision Zero-Download Viewer to Connect to Upstate’s Epic EMR System

(MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin – November 10th, 2011)

TeraMedica announced that following the signing of an agreement between the parties on September 30, 2011, SUNY Upstate Medical University will be implementing TeraMedica’s Evercore® Enterprise Vendor Neutral Architecture (VNA) in early 2012. Specifically, SUNY Upstate Medical University will be utilizing TeraMedica’s Evercore Smartstore™ and Univision modules. The complete deployment includes two hospitals and other regional imaging facilities throughout New York.

“SUNY Upstate Medical University recognized their growing need for scalable, vendor neutral architecture,” said Jim Prekop, TeraMedica’s President and CEO. “Our patient-centered solution, Evercore, also addressed their need to integrate with their Epic EMR system. By implementing our industry-leading Vendor Neutral Architecture, SUNY Upstate Medical University has instantly created a higher quality of patient care.”

Added Prekop: “This implementation was driven by SUNY Upstate Medical University Chief Information Officer (CIO), Teresa Wagner, who wanted to integrate studies throughout Upstate’s cardiology and radiology departments. By utilizing Evercore, SUNY Upstate Medical University should see immediate consolidation of storage costs, control and reduce cost ownership, and realize all the benefits of the electronic medical record.”

“We needed to deliver a lightweight image set to all desktops across the enterprise, within the context of our resident Epic EMR,said Teresa Wagner, CIO of SUNY Upstate Medical University. She added, “Evercore allows us to quickly identify and retrieve all patient-centric images independent of modality, PACS or physical site. In addition to delivering these operational efficiencies, our staff can improve patient care by rapidly identifying all images on a patient throughout the network, while inside the Electronic Medical Record.”

Evercore integrates and manages patient-centric clinical content in the clinical and research settings across wide geographies, including standard DICOM objects. Evercore also possesses the ability to natively manage and distribute beyond DICOM using global standards such as MPG, JPG, PDF and many other critical clinical content such as treatment plans for cancer care or vital reports in non-standard formats.

TeraMedica’s patented Smartstore™ module intelligently manages the total image lifecycle of DICOM and beyond. The Univision™ module provides a multi-layer, zero-download image viewer, with seamless integration to any EMR/EHR/PHR/RHIO. TeraMedica’s vendor-independent platform connects multiple PACS to any storage system, thus ending cumbersome data migration.

Prekop also commented, “SUNY Upstate Medical University has taken a significant step towards delivery of meaningful use and patient-centered healthcare through its use of Evercore. Evercore efficiently combines clinical objects in a central clinical content manager, while also satisfying the medical team’s need for a holistic view of patient data in real time.”
