TeraMedica® Inc. Announces New Medical Archiving Solution Powered by IBM System x® and Storage

Highly scalable solution manages 25,000 to 10 million medical images annually

(MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin – September 8th, 2011)TeraMedica today announced a medical archiving solution, powered by IBM systems, storage and software, which provides patients and caregivers instant access to critical medical data at the point of care. Developed in collaboration with IBM and Avnet Technology Solutions, the medical information management offering is capable of managing from 25,000 to 10 million medical image procedures, helping healthcare practitioners provide better patient care with greater efficiency and at reduced costs.

The integrated archiving platform combines TeraMedica’s Evercore® Total Lifecycle Management product suite with IBM’s Information Archive and Scale-Out Network Attached Storage (SONAS) platforms powered by IBM System x® servers and IBM Tivoli® software, allowing users to manage and view clinical images originating from different treatments and providers to bring secure, consistent image management and distribution at the point of care.

“Our collaborative relationship with IBM and global solutions distributor, Avnet Technology Solutions, provides a unique approach to providing a comprehensive medical archiving imaging architecture,” said Jim Prekop, CEO of TeraMedica. “This unparalleled medical offering captures and aggregates digital images from multiple diagnostic sources, assembling them into a vendor-neutral archive with a logical single patient-care centric view. It was built on our proven heritage and is based on the natural progression of our success in the large-scale enterprise imaging market.”

TeraMedica’s Evercore solution allows physicians and patients alike to instantly access medical images from a “single-pane-of-glas”. The offering provides virtual accessibility to X-rays, MRI scans and/or Cardiology exams, as well as other types of clinical digital content, such as electronic reports, both DICOM and non-DICOM. The “bundled” approach allows Avnet resellers to provide customers a turnkey system with TeraMedica’s Evercore Total Life Cycle Management Suite on IBM’s Information Archive or SONAS storage platform.

Avnet Technology Solutions’ integration and services support is vital to this solution. By integrating the various components (storage, servers and software), the business reseller/partner is able to provide a complete solution that seamlessly implements into their customer’s environment.  In addition, Avnet will provide help-desk services for this solution, which provides an important point of contact for customers.

“Avnet helps resellers provide this solution to healthcare providers faster by leveraging Avnet’s enablement, demand generation, and services offerings to the channel,” said Mark Martin, vice president of marketing, Avnet IBM Solutions Group, Avnet Technology Solutions, Americas. “In addition, this offering is exclusive to Avnet, providing our partners with a unique competitive advantage that addresses a high growth segment of the market.”

IBM’s storage solutions provide a foundation from which healthcare customers can build their own vendor-neutral solution for medical imaging. IBM SONAS is designed as a high-performance solution capable of scaling performance and capacity independently, and non-disruptively. In addition, SONAS provides a multitude of data management and business continuity features designed to meet today’s archive and traditional storage challenges. IBM Information Archive is a simple and flexible archiving solution designed to help organizations address their complete information retention needs-business, legal or regulatory. As a result, SONAS and Information Archive can easily integrate with an organization’s existing storage and business strategies.

“IBM Information Archive and SONAS in collaboration with the TeraMedica Evercore offering and Avnet’s integration and distribution capabilities gives healthcare providers a premium-level solution that meets their medical imaging archive requirements,” said Doug Balog, vice president, IBM Storage Systems. “Together we have created a solution to help enterprise customers realize the true benefits of a vendor-neutral architecture for the imaging marketplace.”
