Operations of Electronic Health Records of Rhode Island Become Part of the Massachusetts eHealth Collaborative

The Massachusetts eHealth Collaborative (MAeHC) today announced that the Electronic Health Records of Rhode Island (EHRRI) has donated certain activities and operations – consistent with the charitable missions of both organizations – to MAeHC. As part of MAeHC, members of the former EHRRI team will continue to provide a local Rhode Island presence, representation on professional committees, and maintain relationships with existing EHRRI customers.

Massachusetts-based Leader in Community EHR Implementation and Strategy and Rhode Island EHR Consultancy Come Together to Drive EHR Adoption Across New England

Waltham, MA  – August 17, 2011 — The Massachusetts eHealth Collaborative (MAeHC), a national leader in the facilitation and management of electronic health record deployment, health information exchange and quality data warehousing and analysis, today announced that the Electronic Health Records of Rhode Island (EHRRI) has donated certain activities and operations – consistent with the charitable missions of both organizations – to MAeHC.

The Electronic Health Records of Rhode Island (EHRRI) is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization, established in 2005, by five Rhode Island-based physician groups with the purpose of facilitating the adoption and use of electronic health records in the state. Over the years, while carrying out its mission of improving the quality, safety and efficiency of medical care, EHRRI has provided support and services to more than 500 physicians in RI.

As part of MAeHC, members of the former EHRRI team will continue to provide a local Rhode Island presence, representation on professional committees, and maintain relationships with existing EHRRI customers.  To ensure these continued operations, MAeHC has leased EHRRI’s former offices at One Davol Square in Providence and will continue to support EHRRI customers.

“Involving the Massachusetts eHealth Collaborative represented the ideal transition for our organization’s original mission to improve the delivery of healthcare through community-based adoption of electronic medical records. We are confident that as part of the agreement with MAeHC, this mission will not only be honored but extend new and critical services into the Rhode Island marketplace,” said Joel Kaufman, M.D., Chairman of the Board, EHRRI, and Executive Director & CEO Lifespan/Physicians PSO.

Under the agreement, neither EHRRI nor MAeHC will serve in the role of an exclusive distributor of eClinicalWorks EHR solutions.  Rather, MAeHC d/b/a EHRRI will expand upon the successful model of local practice implementation, support and education for Rhode Island providers while capitalizing on MAeHC’s vendor neutral experience in the areas of Strategic Advisory Services, Patient Centered Medical Home, Health Information Exchange and Quality Data Warehousing and Analysis via MAeHC’s proprietary Quality Data Center.  Also as part of the agreement, MAeHC will establish a Rhode Island Advisory Committee which will include prior EHHRI Directors or designees and Rhode Island-based physicians.

“EHRRI has done an amazing job in fulfilling its mission of facilitating rapid EHR adoption and implementation in Rhode Island, and we are truly honored that they have entrusted us with continuing their mission in Rhode Island” said Micky Tripathi, President and CEO, MAeHC. “We are ready to begin building upon this infrastructure and moving forward to offer a wider range of solutions to continue to pursue the mission of improving the quality, safety and efficiency of medical care.  We hope to play a major role across Rhode Island and New England in helping provider organizations achieve meaningful use and realize the tremendous benefits of EHR and HIE technology.”
