152 VA Medical Centers to Implement Intelligent InSites to Improve Health Care Efficiency

Intelligent InSites to Provide Enterprise-Wide Software Solution for Department of Veterans Affairs’ $543 Million RTLS Contract

Fargo, ND – February 20, 2013 – Intelligent InSites, Inc., the leading provider of real-time operational intelligence for healthcare in the government and commercial sectors, has been selected to provide the enterprise-wide software solution for the Department of Veterans Affairs’  (VA) $543 million Real Time Location System (RTLS) contract, as a subcontractor to the prime contractor, HP Enterprise Services.

The five-year contract will provide 152 medical centers in the 21 Veterans Integrated Service Networks (VISNs) and seven Consolidated Medical Outpatient Pharmacy facilities with a real-time, system-wide solution to help improve operational efficiency, quality, satisfaction, and compliance. The solution supports VA’s objectives to decrease operational costs, reduce delays in patient care, and increase clinical efficiencies and staff productivity.

“The flexibility of the Intelligent InSites platform, including its ability to empower multiple applications to deliver real-time operational intelligence across multiple use cases and multiple facilities, supports VA’s vision to improve health care efficiency across the VA enterprise,” said Kimberly Brayley, Director, RTLS Project Management Office, Veterans Health Administration.

Real-Time Operational Intelligence

By automatically collecting data from millions of RTLS and RFID tags on VA medical equipment, surgical instruments, and supplies, the Intelligent InSites solution will provide VA with unprecedented visibility, analytics, and intelligence into its operational processes.  Initial use cases include asset management, cath lab supply management, sterile processing workflow, and automated temperature monitoring.  Future use cases include patient wander management, hand hygiene monitoring, emergency department workflow, and operating room workflow.

Enterprise-Wide Architecture

The Intelligent InSites software platform is designed to span multiple hospitals across large healthcare systems, aggregating and processing data to provide real-time operational intelligence at the department level, hospital level, and healthcare system level.  At the level of a VA Medical Center, the Intelligent InSites solution will help VA employees impact operational processes and patient care in real time.  At a regional and national level, the enterprise-wide capabilities of the Intelligent InSites platform will allow VA to monitor, benchmark, and improve system-wide operational performance and process improvement initiatives, resulting in increased healthcare efficiency and improved Veteran care.

Open Platform, Open APIs

A fundamental aspect of the Intelligent InSites solution is the ability for 3rd-party developers, IT departments, and healthcare solution providers to build real-time-enabled solutions on the Intelligent InSites software platform, or to integrate with the Intelligent InSites solution to provide or leverage real-time information from across the enterprise.  Everything within the Intelligent InSites platform is accessible through open application programming interfaces (APIs), allowing developers to easily build new solutions and leverage the real-time operational intelligence within the Intelligent InSites solution.

For VA, current integrations to the Intelligent InSites platform include Censis Technologies for sterile processing and surgical instrument tracking, WaveMark for cath lab supply management, and VA’s asset management solution, AEMS/MERS.  In addition, Intelligent InSites will integrate with VA’s electronic health record software, VistA CPRS, to augment operational processes with contextually-relevant clinical data.

“The VA healthcare system is a recognized leader in healthcare—both for the quality of their clinical care and for their use of healthcare information technology to transform and improve their operations and patient care,” said Margaret Laub, President and CEO of Intelligent InSites.  “As the current enterprise platform provider to VA for its successful deployment across the seven medical centers of VISN 11, we are extremely honored to expand our service to the VA and provide system-wide service to our nation’s Veterans.”
