Merge Healthcare Demonstrates iConnect(R) at HIMSS12 Interoperability Showcase – #HIMSS12

HIMSS Demonstration Builds on Four Years of Successful IHE Connectathon Testing

CHICAGO, Feb. 21, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Merge Healthcare (Nasdaq:MRGE), a leading provider of enterprise imaging and interoperability solutions, announced that Merge iConnect® will be featured at the HIMSS12 Interoperability Showcase (booth #11000) at this year’s HIMSS conference in Las Vegas, February 21-24.

“We’re proud that iConnect is part of the Interoperability Showcase at HIMSS, and of the collaborative effort that is taking place among healthcare IT vendors to ensure interoperability among the myriad of systems and interfaces hospitals use to share data,” said Jeff Surges, CEO, Merge Healthcare. “Attendees will see first-hand how interoperable systems, like iConnect Access, communicate with one another better, are easier to implement, and enable providers to use information more effectively.”

Merge iConnect Access provides a true “zero-footprint” image viewing capability and can be embedded into many third party products. iConnect Access is part of the iConnect portfolio, which is the only comprehensive solution for collecting, archiving, viewing, sharing and exchanging any type of image, anywhere, any time. iConnect provides interoperable image exchange and management, and is an enabling technology that reduces or eliminates many barriers to efficiency in healthcare organizations.

Merge’s client base spans 1,500 hospitals and 6,000 clinics. iConnect is in use at some of the largest and most prestigious hospitals and healthcare systems, including Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, the third largest pediatric hospital in the U.S.; HealthPartners, the largest consumer-governed, nonprofit health care organization in the nation; and DuPage Medical Group, one of the largest multi-specialty physician groups in the country.

In addition to demonstrating iConnect Access at the Interoperability Showcase, Merge Healthcare will feature the following imaging and interoperability solutions at booth #1023:

  • iConnect® Share, an Internet-gateway capable of receiving and morphing studies from outside the enterprise, allowing for prompt electronic transfer of images (vs. burning and sending on a CD).
  • iConnect® VNA, a vendor neutral archive to create a patient-centric record of images across all sites and modalities, enabling physicians to manage content from disparate storage solutions.
  • Merge Honeycomb™, a cloud-based platform featuring free image sharing.
  • Merge Radiology Solutions, an end-to-end suite including Merge RIS™ (designed to meet Meaningful Use), Merge PACS™, Merge Financials™, Merge Documents™ and Merge Dashboards™.
  • Merge EHR, an electronic health record for image-intensive specialties, including OB, orthopedics and eye care.
  • Merge Cardio™, a cardiology image and information management system that supports all modalities, and Merge Hemo™, for real-time documentation.
  • Merge AIMS™, an electronic anesthesia information management system and Merge PreSurgical™, a pre-operative solution to gather patient date ad manage patient risk.

iConnect Completes IHE Connectathon 4 Consecutive Years

Merge iConnect Access successfully completed testing for all registered Integration Profiles at the Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise Connectathon held last month in Chicago. Merge Healthcare tested successfully with 25 different vendors and its solutions were proven to meet all required functionality and interoperability requirements including the IHE ATNA security profile. Merge completed six IHE Integration Profiles, including Consistent Time (CT), Audit Trail and Node Authentication (ATNA), Cross-Enterprise Document Sharing-b (XDS.b), Cross-Enterprise Document Sharing for Imaging (XDS-I.b), Patient Identifier Cross-Referencing (PIX) and Patient Demographics Query (PDQ). This confirms that Merge iConnect Access can be used in IHE XDS (Cross Enterprise Document Sharing) solutions including Health Information Exchanges (HIE) and Accountable Care Organizations (ACO) around the world.

The IHE Connectathon is the healthcare IT industry’s only large-scale interoperability testing event. It provides detailed validation of the participants’ interoperability and compliance with IHE profiles. During the Connectathon systems exchange information with complementary systems from multiple vendors, performing all of the transactions required for the roles they have selected, called IHE Actors, in support of defined clinical use cases, called IHE Profiles. Thousands of vendor-to-vendor connections have been tested overall, and tens of thousands of transactions passed among the systems tested.

Merge Healthcare Expands Capabilities in Revenue Cycle Management

Latest release of Merge Financials™ selected by Greensboro Radiology includes anesthesia billing and provisions for ANSI 5010

CHICAGO–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Merge Healthcare Incorporated (NASDAQ: MRGE), a global corporation dedicated to health IT interoperability solutions, announced the release of Merge Financials™ 6.1, the latest revenue cycle management solution for Merge’s billing community that processes over 100 million transactions annually. Merge now boasts over 60 customers on Merge Financials, including Greensboro Radiology PA, a large radiology practice with over 50 radiologists serving central North Carolina.

“We chose Merge because of their stability and we felt the Financials system features were what we were looking for in a practice management system,” says Debbie Hodges, Director of Billing Operations for Greensboro Radiology, PA. “We love having a partner that will listen to our needs and who will work with us. We are actively using the software to manage our billing, and feel confident we are prepared for the upcoming billing changes. Having a partner like Merge has taken away a big worry from our practice.”

Merge Financials now includes capabilities to prepare physician practices for upcoming reimbursement changes. In particular, the solution facilitates the transition of electronic data exchange to the new ANSI 5010 required format, accommodates new PQRI (Physician Quality Reporting Initiative) procedures and reporting, and begins the planning process for the upcoming ICD-10 requirements. Additionally, the new Merge Financials 6.1 allows for full conversion of patient accounts and accounts receivable data from legacy billing solutions.

Merge Financials now also includes capabilities for anesthesia billing. The new anesthesia module allows for top-notch charge handling and claim filing for both the anesthesiologist and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists. Using the robust automated features already established in Merge Financials, the system will now also enable important data entry items, such as: physical status units, medical direction, and ASA code crosswalks. This provides more capabilities to Merge’s growing user community of anesthesiologists who use the Merge AIMS™ solution for the electronic capture of anesthesia records throughout the perioperative process.
