Ideal Life Chooses Orange Business Services to Add Global Dimension to Remote Health Management

Solutions Expand in Europe and Latin America with Orange M2M communications

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Dec. 3, 2012) – At the 2012 mHealth Summit in Washington, D.C., Toronto-based remote health provider Ideal Life announced that it has chosen Orange Business Services to expand its remote monitoring solutions for wellness and chronic conditions to an international audience. Orange will provide seamless machine to machine (M2M) wireless connectivity for Ideal Life in Europe and Latin America, promoting comprehensive remote care to the home and preventing non-critical re-admissions of patients to hospitals.

“As an established and comprehensive provider of global M2M solutions, Orange Business Services provides us with the perfect platform to deliver our remote health monitoring services to a greater number of caregivers and insurance providers from around the world,” said Harvey Goldberg, CEO of Ideal Life. “For healthcare enterprises in these regions, our expanded services will lead to better regulatory compliance, improve their migration to electronic medical records (EMR) and reduce costs. For patients, we can offer a better quality of life with comprehensive and reliable care to more homes, thereby reducing hospital stays and providing around the clock, non-obtrusive preventive care.”

Ideal Life will be offering new medical hubs containing Orange SIM cards. These hubs will reside in the home, collecting data from a variety of health-related devices, from blood pressure monitors to glucose, oxygen saturation and heart rate meters. Once collected, this information is transmitted in real time over the Orange network to physicians who can access it using a variety of devices such as tablets, smartphones and traditional PCs.  The application can also format the data into a standardized EMR, improving compliance with recent legislation requiring such records.

“Technology is the gateway for transforming healthcare and improving quality of life,” said Thierry Zylberberg, executive vice president, Orange Healthcare, a division dedicated to developing e-health solutions. “Combining our expertise in e-health with our global M2M solutions, Orange is well placed to deliver advanced m-Health services to our customers like Ideal Life, and in turn to their patients, health professionals, caregivers and insurance carriers, with the goal in part to offer patients and their families peace of mind.”

Independa, IDEAL LIFE to Provide Plug-and-Play Health Monitoring for Independent Elderly and Their Caregivers

Independa™ is incorporating IDEAL LIFE’s wireless health monitoring products into its growing set of tools for caring remotely for independent older adults. IDEAL LIFE devices, including scales, glucometers and medication dispensers, as well as its wireless hub, will become part of the Independa Artemis™ solution.

Professional caregivers and the elderly will be able to easily connect the IDEAL LIFE elements with other Artemis components for tracking health, safety and activity. This will come in handy, for instance, when a person returns home from the hospital or moves to an independent living facility. Caregivers won’t have to function as IT integrators; they’ll be free to focus on doing what they do best.

Independa Artemis Solution to Incorporate IDEAL LIFE Glucometers, Medication Dispensers, Other Devices and Wireless Hub

SAN DIEGO, Aug. 1, 2012 – Home health, home care and other professional caregivers face a bewildering array of options for monitoring the independent elderly, and they often have to play integrator to make disparate devices work together. A new agreement between Independa™ and IDEAL LIFE will help avoid that hassle, time and expense by providing caregivers and caregiving organizations a suite of solutions that are connected and ready to use right out of the box.

Independa will integrate IDEAL LIFE’s wireless health monitoring products – including scales, glucometers, pulse oximeters, blood pressure cuffs, medication dispensers and a wireless hub – into the Independa Artemis™ solution.

Caregivers and the independent elderly will simply unpack and power up the devices, which will automatically connect wirelessly to other Artemis elements. This turnkey out-of-the-box experience is ideal for quickly establishing monitoring systems, such as when a person returns home after surgery or moves into an independent living facility.

Artemis, scheduled for general availability this fall, will feature a wide selection of health, safety and activity sensors, with support for a variety of healthcare communications protocols. Artemis will be offered through Independa partners, including home health, home care and senior living providers that want to provide next-generation telecare services.

“Technology is a means to achieve longer and better independent living, more cost-effective care and peace of mind,” said Independa CEO Kian Saneii. “Through our relationship with IDEAL LIFE, technology will fade into the background the moment caregivers and the older adults open the box. In the process, our companies are setting the standard for integrated, cloud-based telecare and eliminating a major barrier to adoption.”

“Many IDEAL LIFEand Independa customers were searching for such a complete and plug-and-play solution, urging our companies to work together,” said IDEAL LIFE President Jason Goldberg. “The integration of IDEAL LIFE solutions into Artemis creates an innovative platform that meets this need by providing a turnkey experience allowing caregivers to focus on what they do best.”

IDEAL LIFE and Sprint Introduce New Home Health Wellness Communication Gateway at CES

Pod uses M2M communication to enable health monitoring via the Nationwide Sprint Network

TORONTO – Jan. 5, 2012 – IDEAL LIFE and Sprint (NYSE:S) today unveiled a new cellular pod that will make it easier than ever for users to manage wellness and monitor chronic conditions remotely. The pod, which will make its debut at the Consumer Electronics Show Jan. 10-13 in Las Vegas, uses wireless Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communication to share information over the Nationwide Sprint Network, which reaches more than 312 million people in the United States, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands (inclusive of roaming).
The device serves as a communication gateway, creating a remote network for instantaneous, secure, two-way communication between a user and his designated healthcare team. Once activated, the pod automatically syncs (pairs) with any of IDEAL LIFE’s wireless monitoring devices.

The cost of healthcare is one of the preeminent issues of the 21st century, and IDEAL LIFE’s solutions are proven to improve wellness and reduce costs through education and self-management. Because of a shift toward preventive care, the remote health management industry is set to grow exponentially this decade, and Sprint and IDEAL LIFE’s collaboration will help facilitate proactive prevention among hospitals, physicians, caregivers and patients.
“IDEAL LIFE’s relationship with Sprint was forged early last year with the goal of expanding IDEAL LIFE’s product portfolio to include embedded wireless devices,” said Harvey Goldberg, CEO of IDEAL LIFE, Inc. “This new offering continues that endeavor and is an example of how wireless technologies, combined with medical applications, can transform healthcare delivery.”
The IDEAL LIFE system features FDA-cleared and HIPAA-compliant products, such as the IDEAL LIFE Gluco-Manager™ (blood glucose meter), IDEAL LIFE BP Manager™ (blood pressure monitor), and IDEAL LIFE Body-Manager™ (body weight scale). Users can take readings with their device of choice, and deliver more accurate and immediate data to healthcare providers who can, in turn, share relevant, reliable and actionable information. This information can be delivered on demand, to any location, through collaborative solutions that are mobile, secure and accessible using this new communication gateway.

IDEAL LIFE, an ISO-certified company, which recently received the prestigious Innovations in Healthcare ABBY Award for its efforts to reduce the cost of quality healthcare, is the leader in remote health management and is revolutionizing healthcare by enhancing connectivity with smart technology throughout the care continuum. The most comprehensive system available, the IDEAL LIFE platform enables people to be healthier and more independent, reduces healthcare costs and provides better use of healthcare resources.
IDEAL LIFE provides physicians, caregivers, family and individuals maintaining healthy lifestyles or managing chronic conditions with smart, affordable, wireless, user-friendly technology anytime, anywhere, to fit any lifestyle. Its digital, two-way and interactive technology streamlines the patient-doctor relationship by allowing individuals to become active participants in their own healthcare through education and self-management, involving the physician when appropriate, thereby saving needless trips to the physician’s office while allowing physicians to manage more patients more efficiently.
“Wireless M2M solutions present an opportunity to streamline healthcare and provide greater access to critical patient information at significantly less cost and effort,” said Wayne Ward, vice president-Emerging Solutions Group, Sprint. “We are proud to collaborate with IDEAL LIFE to facilitate real-time dialogue and data exchange between individuals and medical professionals. The potential to improve patient wellness and physician efficiency in an on-demand setting is just one example of how connected devices are fundamentally changing every aspect of the way we work and live.”

The pod is available based on specific user needs, offered separately from other IDEAL LIFE devices, and users are not required to have a Sprint account to achieve connectivity with the device. Some products have a monthly service fee that is available free of charge through select health plans.

Sprint and IDEAL LIFE Address Rising Medical Costs and Enhance Access to Health Care with Wireless Health Monitoring

How do you make health care more affordable and accessible? Sprint and IDEAL LIFE may have an answer. Sprint and IDEAL LIFE today announced they have launched wireless kiosks for users to capture health and wellness information remotely. Wireless M2M solutions present an opportunity to streamline healthcare and provide greater access to quality information at significantly lower cost.

Patients check vitals at self-service kiosks while results are instantly transmitted to their doctors via Wireless M2M technology

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. and TORONTO, Canada – Oct. 11, 2011 Sprint (NYSE: S) and IDEAL LIFE® today announced they have launched wireless kiosks for users to capture health and wellness information remotely. The kiosks transmit medical data using Sprint’s wireless network and are indicative of a trend within the health care industry toward more self-management and preventative care.

IDEAL LIFE is already known for its remote health monitoring platform for individuals with chronic conditions and was recently recognized as a 2011 Innovations in Healthcare ABBY Award winner. Now their new kiosks are designed for high-volume traffic and can be installed in communal settings such as community centers, libraries, schools, employer facilities, living centers, gyms, health clinics and physician offices.

IDEAL LIFE’s digital, two-way and interactive technology streamlines health care delivery by empowering  individuals to actively regulate their health through education and self-management, involving the physician when appropriate, thereby saving needless trips to the physician’s office while equipping physicians to manage more patients, more efficiently. Whether measuring blood pressure, weight, blood glucose levels or any other biometric reading, IDEAL LIFE kiosk users are able to provide more accurate and immediate data to health care professionals who can, in turn, respond with relevant, reliable and actionable information.

Using technology to stay connected to health care

Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communications entails devices other than cell phones talking directly to each other over the Sprint wireless network. In the case of health care, M2M connects consumers—the chronically ill, aging or those who just want to improve overall wellness—with easy-to-use medical applications. The IDEAL LIFE kiosk is an example of how wireless technologies, combined with medical applications, can transform health care delivery.

“Wireless M2M solutions present an opportunity to streamline health care and provide greater access to critical patient information at significantly less cost and effort,” said Wayne Ward, vice president-Emerging Solutions Group, Sprint. “Sprint is proud to collaborate with IDEAL LIFE to facilitate real-time dialog and data exchange between individuals and medical professionals. The potential to impact patient wellness and physician efficiency in an on-demand setting is just one example of how connected devices are fundamentally changing every aspect of the way we work and live.”

The prescription for affordable health care is telemedicine

An IDEAL LIFE-sponsored study of congestive heart failure (CHF) patients showed that remote monitoring using the IDEAL LIFE system offers significant benefits. Among 200 CHF patients, the cost for hospital admissions was reduced from $1.26 million to $540,000.

“IDEAL LIFE already has a strong track record of health care cost reduction,” said Jason Goldberg, president-IDEAL LIFE. “Our collaboration with Sprint will allow seamless integration into the marketplace with the IDEAL LIFE kiosk, enabling our company to quickly deploy more solutions providing greater access to care and creating additional health care savings.”

Independent studies support IDEAL LIFE’s findings. Statistics from the Health Research Institute suggest that telemedicine has the potential to reduce costs, extend accessibility and enhance overall effectiveness of health care delivery.

·         If doctors use wireless applications to remotely monitor patients with chronic conditions, such as diabetes or obesity, the annual savings could amount to approximately $21 billion due to a reduction in hospitalization and nursing home costs.

·         88 percent of physicians would like their patients to be able to monitor their health on their own.

·         During a two-year study by the Health Research Institute, e-visits were able to replace in-office visits in 40 percent of the 2,531 cases.

Open Networks Drive Innovation in Telemedicine

Sprint’s open approach, network flexibility and proven execution reduces costs, extends accessibility and enhances overall effectiveness of health care
Overland Park, Kan. – June 8, 2011 – How does a wireless carrier make health care delivery more cost efficient and patient friendly? By enabling mobile applications and machine-to-machine (M2M) communication, Sprint (NYSE: S) is on the forefront of telemedicine. The driver of Sprint’s innovation is its “open” strategy, providing opportunities for developers to create innovative applications and solutions for the medical community. It also encourages third-party development, streamlines the process of certifying a product on the network and increases the speed a company can get its product to market.
Rather than dictating what developers can do on the Sprint network, Sprint makes available application programming interfaces (API’s) that allow businesses to develop wireless solutions and applications that take advantage of capabilities at the network, IT, service and device level. Sprint has moved beyond the idea that “as a carrier we know best” and instead focuses on leveraging its assets to drive innovation to the market.
“The Sprint Emerging Solutions Group is all about open development,” said Wayne Ward, vice president-Sprint Emerging Solutions Group. “The developer community has told us they thrive in an environment that accelerates their speed to market with simple, unencumbered access to our full complement of network capabilities. Considering that they are delivering wireless applications for the purpose of enhancing the health and well-being of all Americans—and potentially saving lives—Sprint is only too willing to invest in technology and processes that foster innovation.”
Sprint Partners are Improving Patient Care
Sprint’s open approach has attracted the attention of many entrepreneurial health care companies who understand that chronically ill patients recover faster and are more comfortable at home than in a hospital and that telemedicine has the potential to improve quality of life. Two such companies are American TeleCare and Reflection Solutions.
  • Powered by Sprint 3G and 4G, American TeleCare, Inc. (ATI) provides solutions to enhance key health care customer applications in clinic-to-clinic and clinic-to-home settings. ATI uses a world-class remote stethoscope at 9.6 Kbps in clinic-to-patient home settings and a sophisticated, leading interactive video technology to access more patients at lower bandwidths.
ATI was the first company to market a video solution over wireless and plans for rapid expansion into hospitals to dramatically decrease costs for 30-day re-admissions. Sprint and ATI are also collaborating on connectivity solutions in patient’s homes to ensure top-notch care, a higher quality of life for chronically ill patients and reduced overall health care costs for their treatment.
  • Reflection Solutions offers a unique product called “Reflection powered by AFrame Digital” which provides wireless personal health monitoring. It includes a device designed to be worn and function as a wristwatch to wirelessly connect patients and their caregivers. The “watch” monitors the patients’ health and physical activity, and provides instability and fall detection. It also has a traditional PERs panic button and can even automatically send an alert in the event of a fall, even if the user is unable to activate the PERs button. Boosted by the power of the Sprint networks, Reflection powered by AFrame Digital extends meaningful care beyond traditional limitations, working in conjunction with the caregivers’ mobile phones and PDAs, so they remain in touch and will be alerted even when they are on the go.
Reflection, a founding partner in the Sprint M2M Collaboration Center, was recently named in the Health and Wellness enterprise and vertical market category of CTIA’s Emerging Technology (E-Tech) Awards.
Taking a Collaborative Approach
Sprint is successfully partnering with health care and wireless companies by sharing its network and expertise in embedded mobile computing and M2M communications. This arrangement allows Sprint’s health care partners to offer a wireless solution while focusing on its core competencies. Those companies include:
  • AirStrip Technologies has developed one-of-a-kind remote patient monitoring applications that deliver real-time vital waveform and other critical patient data directly from hospital monitoring systems to mobile devices to let providers continually monitor vital signs from wherever they are.
  • BodyMedia provides a holistic weight-management system consisting of an armband monitor, online activity manager, optional display and free smartphone apps. It automatically tracks the calories burned during daily activities and even monitors the quality of sleep. In April, the companies launched the Sprint BodyMedia ID pack, a customized bundle of widgets, applications, wallpapers, ringtones and wellness content for selected Sprint smartphones.
  • Calgary Scientific has developed an application called ResolutionMD Mobile powered by PureWeb which provides advanced visualization of critical medical images (MRIs, CAT scans) directly on Sprint devices, such as the HTC EVO4G and Samsung Epic 4G. Attending or acute care physicians can have real-time access to specialists such as neurologists, regardless of where the physicians and patients are located.
  • IDEAL LIFE manufactures in-home health monitoring equipment for individuals with chronic conditions such as congestive heart failure, hypertension, diabetes, asthma and obesity. The system can work wirelessly using the Nationwide Sprint Network to transmit medical data to health care providers to support diagnosis and general monitoring. IDEAL LIFE products are FDA approved for over-the-counter sales and HIPAA compliant for patient confidentiality.
  • Omnilink tracks individuals who have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s or some other form of dementia. With Omnilink, Sprint ensures family and friends are well-cared for even while away from a doctor’s office or care facility.
Roll Up Your Sleeves
To meet the demand for developer support and network certification, Sprint recently opened an M2M Collaboration Center in Burlingame, Calif. The center is a hands-on, interactive environment where ideas, knowledge and technology unite to produce wirelessly enabled M2M concepts, products and solutions. Engineers from Sprint and their solution partners team up to rapidly bring new M2M ideas to the marketplace that can improve people’s health and wellness. In addition, Sprint holds an annual developers’ conference each fall in California. Developers gather to hear from Sprint executives, industry leaders and session experts to gain valuable insight into the next evolution in the wireless data industry.
The Case for Telemedicine is Clear
The prescription for improving health care includes bringing the industry up to date with current technology. Statistics from the Health Research Institute suggests that telemedicine has the potential to support significant numbers of people with remote monitoring, leading to reduced costs, extended accessibility and enhanced overall effectiveness.
  • If doctors use wireless applications to remotely monitor patients with chronic conditions, such as diabetes or obesity, the annual savings could amount to approximately $21 billion due to a reduction in hospitalization and nursing home costs.
  • 88 percent of physicians would like their patients to be able to monitor their health on their own.
  • During a two-year study by the Health Research Institute, e-visits were able to replace in-office visits in 40 percent of the 2,531 cases.
As a demonstration of their commitment to the development of telemedicine as a health care delivery channel, Sprint is a Sustaining President’s Circle member of the American Telemedicine Association. To learn more about Sprint health care solutions, visit www.sprint.com/healthcare.

Wayne Ward will make a keynote speech at the Axeda Connexion in Boston on June 9. Ward will present “How the Connected World will be the Catalyst for Change,” which will include how M2M communications is impacting health care.

Sprint and IDEAL LIFE Enhance Home Health Care

M2M communications enable health care providers to monitor patients in their homes;
The “sandwich” generation turns to technology for piece of mind
Orlando, Fla. – Feb. 21, 2011 – Sprint (NYSE:S) today announced at the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Annual Conference, that it is partnering with IDEAL LIFE Inc. to expand IDEAL LIFE’s product portfolio to include embedded wireless devices. The companies will develop, certify and co-market a version of the IDEAL LIFE hub to transmit health data over the Nationwide Sprint Network.
IDEAL LIFE manufactures in-home health monitoring equipment for individuals with chronic conditions such as congestive heart failure, hypertension, diabetes, asthma and obesity. The agreement between Sprint and IDEAL LIFE means that the entire system will work wirelessly utilizing Sprint’s machine-to-machine (M2M) platform and the Nationwide Sprint Network to transmit medical data to health care providers to support diagnosis and general monitoring. The Nationwide Sprint Network (inclusive of roaming) reaches more than 309 million people in the United States, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Transmitted data can include the patient’s glucose, blood pressure, weight, heart rate and oxygen level. IDEAL LIFE products are FDA approved for over-the-counter sales and HIPAA compliant for patient confidentiality.
“We are thrilled to partner with Sprint so our product offerings are even more comprehensive and robust,” said Harvey Goldberg, CEO of Ideal Life, Inc. “This will allow consumers peace of mind when the health of a loved one is being monitored, and it further establishes IDEAL LIFE as a leader in the remote health monitoring industry.”
As part of this partnership, Sprint and IDEAL LIFE will showcase wireless health monitoring equipment at the Sprint booth (#2551) during the 2011 HIMSS Annual Conference in Orlando.
Health care is increasingly top of mind for Americans, from physicians and hospitals to patients and care givers. Health care costs increase six percent year-to-year. Physicians and hospitals are overloaded. Errors can occur and those with chronic diseases face challenges. If patients with chronic diseases are able to have their health monitored at home, it could drastically reduce the economic burden while also providing a level of constant and improved care needed for the individual, allowing them to be in control of their own health.
More and more, baby boomers are finding their lives sandwiched between raising their children and caring for their older parents. Many of them are looking to technology for an answer and mobility might be one solution that not only enables health care providers to monitor patients in their homes, but also lets adult children and other family keep an eye on aging parents with the help of a computer, tablet or smartphone. When a parent steps on an IDEAL LIFE scale in the morning or checks their glucose level before a meal with an IDEAL LIFE meter, a son or daughter living hundreds or thousands of miles away can be notified. M2M technology not only tracks the parent’s health, but it gives the family piece of mind as well.
The market for remote monitoring is strong: the Health Research Institute estimates the annual consumer market for remote/mobile monitoring devices to be $7.7 billion to $43 billion, based on the range consumers said they would be willing to pay.
M2M communications, where devices other than phones talk directly to each other, is a compelling story for Sprint. “Mobile embedded solutions and partnerships present an opportunity to streamline health care and provide greater access to quality information at less significant cost and effort,” said Tim Donahue, vice president of Industry Solutions, Sprint. “Connected devices are literally changing every aspect of our lives, impacting how we work and live our lives and that’s fostering explosive growth in the wireless industry, in a way that we’ve never seen before. Sprint is pleased to assist IDEAL LIFE in the development of these next-generation home health solutions.”
Sprint is a leader in providing health care companies with a full range of wireless and wireline data services and unmatched expertise with embedded mobile computing and M2M communications, enabling them to bring new products to market. • Calgary Scientific’s ResolutionMD Mobile – Provides neurologists and clinicians with real-time images, video and reports on their Android-based smartphones.
  • GE Healthcare – Sprint and GE Healthcare have collaborated to provide in-building wireless communications services to hospitals in North America. The solution provides hospitals with a comprehensive platform for voice and data communications over secure cellular, Wi-Fi and telemetry infrastructure that requires only one installation. Patients, clinicians and hospital visitors benefit from secure, reliable voice and data communications, supporting an environment conducive to higher levels of patient care.
  • Omnilink – Tracks individuals who have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s or some other form of dementia. With Omnilink, Sprint ensures family and friends are well-cared for even while away from a doctor’s office or care facility.
