St. Mary’s Healthcare System Selects iConnect(R) Access and iConnect Enterprise Archive

Vendor-Neutral Archive Consolidates Silos and Provides Access to Any Image, Anywhere, Any Time

CHICAGO, June 18, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Merge Healthcare Incorporated (Nasdaq:MRGE), a leading provider of clinical systems and innovations that seek to transform healthcare, today announced that St. Mary’s Healthcare System has selected Merge’s iConnect Access and iConnect Enterprise Archive to support their enterprise imaging strategy.

“Since we already use many Merge solutions including Merge PACS™, Merge Cardio™ and Merge Hemo™ across our enterprise, Merge’s iConnect Enterprise Archive was a natural extension of our long-standing partnership,” explained Brain Duncan, Manager of Radiology Services at St. Mary’s. “Furthermore, we selected Merge’s vendor-neutral archive because we believe that by using the information life cycle management polices within the enterprise archive, we will see extensive storage cost savings both now and well into the future.”

“Additionally, as we work closely with referring providers in the Athens area, we need to get data to others quickly and easily. Because iConnect Access is a zero-footprint, web-based viewer, referring physicians can view images anywhere, including on mobile devices, which has made my life a lot easier,” added Duncan. “Plus, iConnect Access image-enables our Meditech EMR to ensure that we’re ready to meet the Stage Two requirements of Meaningful Use.”

“We are pleased to see a longstanding client like St. Mary’s standardize on Merge solutions throughout their enterprise,” added Jeff Surges, CEO, Merge Healthcare. “The combination of iConnect Enterprise Archive and iConnect Access will further extend the value of their existing Merge solutions and ensure that their imaging strategy can scale to meet the growing needs for their owned and referring physician communities.”

Merge’s iConnect Enterprise Clinical Platform is the industry’s only comprehensive solution for collecting, archiving, viewing, sharing and exchanging any type of image, anywhere, any time. It includes iConnect Access*, a zero-download DICOM image and XDS server, iConnect Share, a gateway for image sharing across the enterprise and iConnect Enterprise Archive, a vendor-neutral archive (VNA) to create an enterprise imaging strategy. It works with existing applications, leveraging widely-used web and healthcare technology standards, to provide a vendor neutral interoperable environment.

A recent InMedica study reported iConnect Enterprise Archive as the world’s #1 VNA, storing over 15 billion images. As the industry’s first true standalone VNA, it has been successfully integrated with over seventy-five PACS vendors and specialty workstations at over 350 sites across the United States. In over half of the implementations, Merge’s customers have integrated third-party PACS with iConnect Enterprise Archive.

UCSF and Harvard Trained Doctor Joins DoctorBase as Chief Medical Officer

Zachary Landman Brings Familial Roots to the Future of mHealth

San Francisco, CA (June 11, 2013) — DoctorBase, a leading mobile solution provider for medical practices, today announced that Dr. Zachary Landman has joined the company as its Chief Medical Officer. The addition of Landman provides DoctorBase with an expert voice to help guide the development of new technologies in the emerging field of mHealth-as-a-Service (mHaaS).

mHaaS technology alleviates common financial pressures on small medical practices by readily making available services that help increase patient volume and revenue. BlueMail, DoctorBase’s flagship service, monetizes typically uncompensated patient communications such as email and text. By employing the software-as-a-service model, mHaaS allows healthcare providers to begin using and benefiting from these technologies with little or no capital investment.

“Both my parents’ practices had to sell to larger health groups, effectively turning them from small business owners to employees. mHaaS technology would’ve given them another option,” said Landman. “I’ve seen first-hand the benefits of using DoctorBase solutions to communicate securely with my colleagues and believe in harnessing the power of technology to help small practices stay in business while continuing to provide the high level of care their patients have and can continue to expect to receive.”

Landman is a former Orthopaedic surgery resident at Harvard Medical School where he covered Massachusetts General, Brigham and Women’s, and Beth Israel Deaconess Hospitals. While there, he developed a curriculum for first year surgical residents and helped form a surgeon based charity to benefit victims of the Boston Marathon bombings. He earned his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of California, San Francisco where he published original research in Spine, Pediatrics, Sports Medicine, and Advanced Imaging.

“Zach has deep roots in healthcare,” said John Sung Kim, CEO of DoctorBase. “His insight into how features like BlueMail can grow medical practices will be invaluable to our team.”

About DoctorBase

DoctorBase has a patent pending multi-tenant mobile platform and is one of the fastest growing Health 2.0 companies as measured by doctor and patient acquisition. Its mHealth-as-a-Service allows patients and healthcare providers to easily communicate through mobile devices with security, auditability and reimbursement.

Ingenious Med Reports Perfect PQRS Reimbursement Rate in 2012

Provider of nation’s largest physician rounding platform’s clients see 100-percent reimbursement rate for third straight year

ATLANTA. June 11, 2013 – Ingenious Med, the nation’s largestmultispecialty charge capture and physician rounding platform, has announced clients using its Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) registry had a 100-percent reimbursement rate in 2012.

This is the third consecutive year Ingenious Med’s PQRS clients had a perfect reimbursement rate from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

“We are very proud to once again show that every one of our clients using our PQRS registry received reimbursement from CMS,” said Steven Liu, M.D., executive chairman and founder of Ingenious Med. “Not only are we excited to provide added value for our clients, we’re also proud of the large role we’ve played in this government drive for quality and data.”

Ranked among the top-10 registries by volume in 2012, Ingenious Med has one of the largest PQRS registries in the country. Moreover, Ingenious Med PQRS registry participants consistently beat the national averages in success rate, reporting rate, and performance rate.

“As incentives and penalties ramp up over the next couple of years, more medical groups will be obligated to focus on PQRS,” Liu said. “Not participating in PQRS this year means groups will be actively losing money due to the new rules.”

In addition to the perfect reimbursement rate, Ingenious Med Quality Reporting users tend to have a higher quality rating than the national average, according to 2011 CMS statistics.

“The landscape of healthcare is changing,” Liu said. “But the record speaks for itself. We’ve earned a reputation for offering innovative solutions for complex issues, and we’re excited to continue down that road to ensure our clients’ practices are successful, whatever may come their way.”

Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book of the same name by Siddhartha Mukherjee, the documentary chronicles the 4,000-year effort to understand, treat and ultimately cure cancer. Siemens’ investment in the production is synergistic with the company’s mission of innovating to advance human health.

“We owe our current understanding of the cancer process to the tremendous advancements in imaging, in blood tests and in information technology solutions that make sense of all of the digital data that has been collected – all of which contribute to selecting better treatment options, an improved ability to measure results, and the opportunity for advanced research analysis,” said Gregory Sorensen, MD, president and CEO, Siemens Healthcare, North America. “This documentary will play a formative role in helping more people understand the contributions that medical imaging, laboratory diagnostics and information technology have played in the history of cancer.”

Since the late 1890s Siemens has been delivering tools for physicians and researchers on the forefront of medical research. In 1896 Siemens developed the first industrially manufactured X-ray tubes for medical diagnostics. In 1957 Siemens performed the first automation of chemical analysis. In 1962 Siemens pioneered the first real-time ultrasound diagnostics. In 2000 Time magazine named Siemens’ Biograph positron emission tomography / computed tomography (PET/CT) system as an Invention of the Year – the system was one of the first to fuse information about tumor metabolism with anatomical images. In 2004 Siemens released the MAGNETOM® Avanto, the first full-body MRI system, creating new possibilities for high-resolution MRI to be used in tumor detection. In 2013 Siemens released Healthcare Intelligence, a solution that automates collection of healthcare data; aggregates and standardizes this data across an enterprise; provides predictive analytics helping identify populations at risk; and helps monitor performance at all levels of the organization.

“Medical imaging and laboratory diagnostics help providers save lives and deliver more effective and, in some cases, less invasive care,” said Dr. Sorensen. “Through our commitment to innovation we put the most sophisticated tools in the hands of the people who are actively shaping our understanding of cancer.”
