Health Care DataWorks Applauds Cedars-Sinai for Attaining HIMSS Analytics Stage 7 Designation

Lends Expertise to Implement an Enterprise Data Warehouse to Assist in Compliance With Stage 7 Requirements

Health Care DataWorks (HCD) takes great pleasure in congratulating its technology partner, world-renowned academic medical center Cedars-Sinai, for achieving Stage 7 on the HIMSS Analytics EMR Adoption Model (EMRAM). Stage 7 represents an advanced and paperless patient record environment, and is the highest designation awarded by EMRAM.

A leading provider of business intelligence solutions and healthcare analytics, HCD partnered with Cedars-Sinai last year to implement HCD’s KnowledgeEdge™ Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) to capture and analyze data. HCD’s solution played an important role in Cedar-Sinai’s use of its data warehouse to generate normalized patient care data and to comply with EMRAM requirements for Stage 7.

“Less than three percent of hospitals nationwide have achieved Stage 7, we are proud of our doctors, nurses, and all of our staff who played such a vital role in helping us to be recognized with this honor,” said Darren Dworkin, SVP and CIO at Cedars-Sinai. “We recognize that HCD’s EDW enabled us to reach this high level more quickly than we anticipated. Our use of analytics gives us a competitive and quality advantage as we support the sharing and use of data to improve the delivery of patient care.”

HCD’s KnowledgeEdge brings together the existing silos of data and unifies them into a data model built specifically for healthcare organizations. Through the use of accelerators such as pre-built dashboards, applications and reports, organizations can quickly empower their users with the data they need for critical decision making. The solution includes all of the software, hardware and services required to implement an EDW in a fraction of the time and cost required to build one.

“To reach Stage 7, a hospital or health system must prove they are using data warehousing and mining techniques to effectively capture and analyze data to use in improving their performance, quality of care and patient safety,” said Richard Gibson, MD, one of the three surveyors HIMSS Analytics sent to Cedars-Sinai to conduct the Stage 7 survey. “In the case of Cedars-Sinai, it was abundantly clear to us that the data warehousing solution they have in place is doing just that.”

In Stage 7, the hospital is truly paperless. Clinical information can be readily shared with other hospitals, ambulatory clinics, sub-acute environments, employers, payers and patients via standard electronic transactions.

“Cedars-Sinai has long been a pioneer in health information technology. It is a privilege to partner with the organization in implementing an EDW and contribute to the attainment of this designation,” said Jason Buskirk, CEO of HCD. “This is a critical time for health IT. Hospitals and other eligible providers have until 2015 to demonstrate meaningful use of certified EMR technology before being penalized. We are pleased that HCD can offer a solution to assist organizations in attaining this goal. We congratulate Cedars-Sinai for joining the exclusive corps of hospitals who have reached Stage 7.”

Health Care DataWorks Launches New Version of KnowledgeEdge™ with Advanced Healthcare Dashboards and Business Intelligence Capabilities

The leading healthcare analytics and business intelligence solutions provider has developed the latest version of KnowledgeEdge to put hospitals and health systems in a stronger position to manage their patient population and a broad range of core measures.

February 25, 2013

Health Care DataWorks, Inc. (HCD), a leading provider of business intelligence solutions and healthcare analytics, has updated its KnowledgeEdge™ product to include advanced analytics capabilities, as well as new subject areas and healthcare dashboards that will enable hospitals and health systems to better manage core clinical and administrative metrics.

“The enhanced capabilities of our KnowledgeEdge solution will give hospitals and health systems a greater degree of business intelligence in areas that have become more prominent in the last 12 months, such as population and risk management and readmissions,” said Pat Bickley, HCD product manager. “With actionable knowledge at their fingertips, they will be in a better position to positively impact quality of care and reimbursements.”

The new KnowledgeEdge Population Management dashboard tracks and trends 20 chronic disease conditions and the illness burden for individual patients as well as patient groups, drilling into specific areas such as clinical services, nursing units and physician panels. Organizations can better evaluate the quality of care they provide for improved patient intervention and timely case management. These patient population analytics also can aid in contract negotiations with medical insurance carriers.

In the new KnowledgeEdge Readmissions dashboard, organizations can monitor and manage readmissions to help them conform to the requirements of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Readmissions Reduction Program. Users can access information related to patient safety, infection control, mortality and other quality and process of care measures that are necessary to fulfill regulations and reporting requirements.

Other key highlights of the new version of KnowledgeEdge include:

  •     New KnowledgeEdge Event Reporting dashboard that provides clinical event reporting to track and trend the number of occurrences, frequency of occurrences and rates for different types and categories of events on a rolling 12/24 month basis
  •     New KnowledgeEdge Admit, Discharge, and Transfer dashboard that allows organizations to determine at any given time where patients are, how many beds are filled, how many beds are open and patient-flow patterns to assist in capacity planning and efficiency enhancements
  •     Updates to the KnowledgeEdge Quality and Patient Safety dashboard that include the ability to track and monitor a variety of quality and process of care measures that are necessary to fulfill CMS regulations as well as national and state reporting requirements

Columbus, OH (PRWEB) January 22, 2013

Health Care DataWorks, Inc. (HCD) is entering into an agreement with El Camino Hospital to provide its KnowledgeEdge™ Enterprise Data Warehouse. El Camino Hospital, with facilities in Mountain View and Los Gatos, Calif., turned to HCD as part of its broader initiative to implement LEAN process management and enhance organization-wide business intelligence.

Health Care DataWorks’ Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) will aggregate data for seamless access to information across multiple operational systems, including clinical, administrative and financial functions. This information will enable the system to make more informed decisions to improve quality, reduce costs and enhance business intelligence. KnowledgeEdge includes numerous accelerators, such as an underlying data model, pre-built dashboards, reports and applications. Initially, El Camino Hospital plans to implement business intelligence surrounding clinical services to manage metrics such as quality, patient experience and Value-based Purchasing (VBP).

“We’re looking forward to working with HCD to implement a business intelligence solution that empowers our team to achieve results,” said Greg Walton, El Camino Hospital’s Chief Information Officer. “Our objective is to access organization-wide information from a technology perspective as well as to create processes that engage and encourage employees to maximize use of the Enterprise Data Warehouse to the benefit of the entire health system.”

HCD partnered with El Camino Hospital’s LEAN process team to develop a business intelligence roadmap that serves as the foundational strategy for the EDW. The process included joint planning sessions to assess information needs and garner insights from end users as to how they would use data in their everyday responsibilities.

“We’re working hand in hand to deliver a business intelligence solution that incorporates the methodology, strategy and technology to integrate with El Camino Hospital’s lean process management,” said Detlev H. OhioHealth Selects Health Care DataWorks for Enterprise Data Warehouse and Healthcare Analytics

Another leading health care system has turned to Health Care DataWorks for the healthcare analytics it needs to make more informed decisions.

OhioHealth, a 17 hospital and 21 health and surgery center system based in Columbus, Ohio has entered into a multi-year agreement with HCD to implement its KnowledgeEdge™ Enterprise Data Warehouse.  OhioHealth joins Cedars-Sinai, Orlando Health, Essentia Health, Presbyterian Healthcare Services and Children’s Medical Center of Dallas all of which are already relying on HCD’s solution to provide actionable knowledge to improve quality while cutting costs.
Health Care DataWorks will provide a fully hosted business intelligence solution to speed the implementation process and enhance OhioHealth’s ability to leverage end-to-end user analysis for more informed healthcare decision making.

Columbus, OH (October 11, 2012) – Health Care DataWorks, Inc. (HCD) is entering into a multi-year agreement with OhioHealth to provide its KnowledgeEdge™ Enterprise Data Warehouse to broaden the health system’s access to analytics in a manner that will  improve quality while reducing costs.

Organization-wide data will be aggregated in the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) to give OhioHealth seamless and near real-time access to information across multiple operational systems, including financial, administrative, clinical and research. This end-to-end user analysis capability provides an increased level of business intelligence. Additionally, HCD will provide its Value-based Purchasing application to help preserve or potentially secure additional Medicare reimbursements.

The EDW is particularly beneficial in the new paradigm of health care, where the pay-for-results approach is replacing the fee-for-service model. Because the EDW will provide end users with numerous ad hoc capabilities for procuring information, OhioHealth will be able to incorporate predictive analysis into decision making.

“Today’s evolving healthcare environment has placed a premium on system-wide analytics capabilities,” said Michael Krouse, Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer for OhioHealth. “Our team is looking forward to a strong partnership with HCD that will enable us to fast track the EDW implementation and achieve a higher level of  healthcare analytics that to this point has been largely prohibitive.”

KnowledgeEdge Enterprise will deliver an Enterprise Data Warehouse in a fraction of the time it would take OhioHealth to build its own, the result of HCD providing all the software, hardware and support, including the underlying data model, pre-built dashboards and pre-built reports. HCD also will host the EDW for OhioHealth.

“Our relationship with OhioHealth is a testament to the value we bring to healthcare organizations seeking to leverage information for timely and informed decision making,” said Detlev H. (Herb) Smaltz, Health Care DataWorks CEO. “When you aggregate and organize the tremendous amount of data that is created from disparate data-producing systems, you achieve a higher level of business intelligence that puts you in a stronger position to manage the balance between improving quality and reducing costs.”

New Mexico’s Presbyterian Healthcare Services Selects Health Care DataWorks for a Clinical Data Repository Solution

Health Care DataWorks (HCD) is pleased to announce a multi-year agreement with Presbyterian Healthcare Services (PHS), New Mexico’s largest provider of care.  HCD will be providing PHS a Clinical Data Repository using our Enterprise Data Warehouse Appliance.  This market-leading technology will provide PHS the actionable knowledge healthcare organizations are looking for today.

Health Care DataWorks, Inc. (HCD) has entered into a multi-year agreement with Presbyterian Healthcare Services (PHS) to provide a Clinical Data Repository (CDR) using HCD’s Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) Appliance.  The goal of this project is to collect timely and accurate cost and quality data and make it available to PHS’ users for informed decision making.  By taking these steps, PHS will have the ability to measure the performance of organizational cost and quality efforts.  The agreement marks the latest partnership in which a leading healthcare organization has turned to Health Care DataWorks for their market-leading technology.

Implementation of the CDR utilizing HCD’s Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) Appliance will begin immediately.  Health Care DataWorks’ EDW/CDR includes a robust healthcare enterprise data model, hundreds of standard reports and a number of pre-built dashboards and scorecards.  The appliance will provide Presbyterian Healthcare Services with an integrated, consolidated view of their clinical, financial, operational, and research data.

“As New Mexico’s largest provider of care and only not-for-profit healthcare system, our purpose is to improve the health of the patients, members and communities we serve,” explains Presbyterian Healthcare Services’ SVP for Quality and Chief Nursing Officer, Kathy Davis, RN.  “We believe implementing Health Care DataWorks’ multi-faceted, Quality Performance dashboard is an important step in helping us meet our quality goals, as well as become more affordable. With HCD, we gain the ability to drill down to detailed information that allows us to identify areas for improvement and make informed decisions about care for each patient and achieve quality outcomes.”

Presbyterian Healthcare Services is New Mexico’s only private, not-for-profit health care system. PHS serves more than 700,000 New Mexicans, which makes them the largest provider of health care in the state.  In addition, PHS operates 8 hospitals statewide while Presbyterians’ clinics handle more than 1.2 million patient visits annually.

“At Health Care DataWorks we understand that healthcare organizations like Presbyterian need actionable knowledge in order to make decisions that enable higher quality results at lower costs,” said Detlev H. (Herb) Smaltz, Health Care DataWorks CEO.  “Because our EDW/CDR solution includes all the hardware, software and services required, PHS will see an impact quickly, saving them both time and money.    It’s this ‘speed to value’ proposition that resonates with organizations like PHS that want to leapfrog past spending years building an EDW/CDR.”
