NextGate Unveils New Cloud Offering for Positive Patient Identification

NextGate announces availability of its EMPI as a Service to help providers quickly and accurately match patient data and deliver a longitudinal record at the point of care

PASADENA, Calif., September 28, 2017 – NextGate, a global leader in patient and provider identification, today unveiled a new cloud innovation for its market-leading Enterprise Master Patient Index (EMPI) solution. NextGate’s cloud-enabled EMPI on Amazon Web Services (AWS) is offered on a subscription basis and can be deployed rapidly, helping healthcare organizations simplify patient record management with greater cost efficiency.  Easy integration in a SaaS model ensures the right data, for the right patient, is available at the right time for improved care delivery and clinical decision-making.

NextGate’s latest identity management offering is designed specifically for healthcare’s unique data and workflow requirements and is the only fully-featured EMPI available as a Service. The cloud-based EMPI gives organizations the affordability and flexibility to manage the volume, velocity, and variety of patient data, in a highly secure and compliant IT environment. NextGate’s comprehensive cloud EMPI can integrate with third-party data enriched sources to clean and augment information as it arrives in the cloud.

“Healthcare leaders are under immense pressure to modernize their IT environments to remain competitive in today’s evolving landscape. To help organizations keep pace, NextGate’s cloud offering is providing the managed services needed to improve the accuracy, quality, and consistency of their patient data, while offloading the time-consuming tasks of managing day-to-day IT operations,” said Andy Aroditis, CEO of NextGate. “Our EMPI as a Service not only helps organizations harness the benefits of the cloud but also reduces operational costs and errors resulting from duplicate patient records.”

Involved in building patient matching solutions for over two decades, NextGate algorithms in the EMPI reconcile and de-duplicate medical records spread over disparate systems and applications to give providers a longitudinal view of patients at the point of care. Additionally, the EMPI assigns each individual a unique patient identifier that serves as cross-reference for accurate exchange of information across the continuum.

Key features of the NextGate EMPI Cloud include:

  • Turnkey platform for automated patient record management across multiple and disparate systems
  • Improved ROI with subscription-based model
  • Rapid route to market with predictable implementation methodology
  • Fully managed, highly available solution for superior reliability and performance to ensure ongoing lifecycle assurance of the EMPI
  • 24×7 security monitoring and end-to-end encryption to keep protected health information (PHI) tightly secure and HIPAA-compliant
  • Standardized deployments with regular upgrades and annual tunings via a fully integrated release management mechanism
  • Records management, de-duplication, consolidation, and cleanup of multiple patient profiles

To further support NextGate’s move to the cloud, the company recently appointed Shahzad Ahmad to its leadership team as Vice President of Cloud Operations and Delivery. Ahmad, who comes to NextGate from Orion Health, will leverage his more than 15 years of experience in outsourced IT operations, cloud platforms delivery, and client engagement roles to oversee expansion of NextGate’s next wave of portfolio offerings to AWS cloud.

“NextGate is dedicated to supporting rising customer expectations for solutions that enable their organizations to be highly efficient and innovative,” said Ahmad. “By bringing the accuracy and efficiency of our globally recognized EMPI, together with the scalability and flexibility of the cloud, healthcare organizations will be well positioned to accelerate their digital transformation journey and provide certainty when accurately identifying and treating patients.”

NextGate EMPI and Provider Registry Pass Interoperability Testing at 2013 IHE Connectathon and Conference

NextGate Products Meet IHE Interoperability Standards for 4th Year in a Row; Underlying Platform for New Provider Self-Service Portal

PASADENA, Calif. — February 28, 2013 — NextGate, a leading provider of enterprise identity management solutions, announced that its Enterprise Master Patient Index (EMPI) and NextGate Provider Registry passed all 64 profile tests at the Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) North American Connectathon and Conference 2013, the healthcare IT industry’s largest interoperability testing event. This accomplishment demonstrates the readiness of NextGate’s EMPI and Provider Registry for immediate deployment in IHE-based and other environments, providing accelerated implementation, standard interoperability, and easy access to current patient and provider information from different platforms and stakeholders.

Provider Management Technology

NextGate’s Provider Registry was one of only a few products to test against the IHE Healthcare Provider Directory (HPD) Trial Implementation, a profile designed to simplify the management of individual and organizational healthcare provider information.  As components in the NextGate Registries for Healthcare software suite, the NextGate Provider Registry, NextGate Provider Directory, and NextGate Provider Self-Service Portal aggregate provider information from different public and private sources, and gives healthcare organizations multiple options for consistent, up to date, and easily accessible provider management solutions.

“As healthcare organizations work towards integration and consolidation, the need for interoperability is more critical than ever before,” stated NextGate’s President and CEO, Andy Aroditis. “Our results in the IHE Connectathon show that NextGate’s solutions support any system or architecture that specifies PIX/PDQ, HL7, XCPD, and HPD requirements, and therefore allows customers to leverage all of our advanced data matching and standardization features, rather than just being limited to simple patient indexes or various provider directories.”

The Connectathon, held by IHE International Inc., is a multi-stakeholder effort to promote the effective use of healthcare information technology (HIT) by providing a common framework for multi-vendor systems. Using an accredited, standards-based certification program, IHE USA certifies that systems are interoperable against established criteria.

NextGate will be showcasing its Provider Registry, Provider Self-Service Portal, EMPI, Patient Portal, and other infrastructure products for connected care at the upcoming Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) 2013 Annual Conference and Exhibition from March 4-6, 2013 in New Orleans, LA. NextGate Provides Patient and Provider Identity Management for Healthcare Affiliates in North Central Washington

NextGate Provides Patient and Provider Identity Management for Healthcare Affiliates in North Central Washington
Centralized Information Helps Coordinate Care and Improve Billing

MONROVIA, Calif. – Jan 30 – NextGate, a leading provider of Enterprise Master Patient Index (EMPI) and Registry solutions, today announced Wenatchee Valley Medical Center (WVMC) and Central Washington Hospital (CWH) have selected NextGate’s EMPI and Provider Registry to simplify patient identification, centralize provider management, and facilitate exchange of clinical and financial data across their shared region, all in support of coordinated and cost-effective healthcare for the residents of North Central Washington.

As the largest multi-specialty medical center and regional hospital in North Central Washington, WVMC and CWH cover a service area encompassing nearly 12,000 square miles, making them one of the nation’s largest rural healthcare delivery systems.  WVMC and CWH are in the process of affiliating to create an integrated healthcare delivery system that includes inpatient and outpatient services.  With the affiliation, and as part of their ongoing effort to build a strong regional health care network that delivers high quality, safe, efficient and cost-effective care for the residents of North Central Washington, it was especially important to have a solution that allows staff and physicians to access patient records stored in two different electronic medical record systems (EMRs).

The NextGate EMPI generates a unique patient identifier for every patient in the enterprise, minimizes confusion from duplicate patient records, and enables clinical and business users to locate and exchange patient data with accuracy and confidence.  The Provider Registry expedites billing, streamlines referrals, and facilitates other provider management processes by aggregating provider information, such as privileges, credentials, and practice locations, into a trusted, central registry.

“Coordinated, collaborative, and cost-effective care depend on instant access to accurate patient and provider information,” said Joe Janda, CIO Wenatchee Valley Medical Center.  “With NextGate’s identity management technology, we anticipated being able to put our shared data to more effective use, reduce costs, improve care and the overall healthcare experience for our patients and care providers.

The industry leading NextGate EMPI and Provider Registry are components of the NextGate Registries for Healthcare platform, a master data management system that identifies, correlates, and aggregates information from disparate systems to create a unified, contextualized view of information across participating entities.

PriMed Selects NextGate EMPI to Support Coordination, Quality, and Safety by Ensuring Consistent and Complete Patient Records for Flagship Client

Management Services Organization Brings Together Data of 300,000 Patients from 3,700 Providers Across Multiple Specialties and Locations for Hill Physicians Medical Group

MONROVIA, Calif. — January 8, 2013 — NextGate, a leading provider of Enterprise Master Patient Index (EMPI) and registry solutions, today announced that PriMed Management Consulting Services, Inc., the management services organization (MSO) for Hill Physicians Medical Group (HPMG), will implement NextGate’s enterprise master patient index (EMPI) software as the foundation for a broad-based Care Management platform to support Hill Physicians’ 3,700 providers. This solution is designed to link patient records across all phases of the care process, as well as ensure the accuracy and completeness of patient data for one of the nation’s largest physicians groups.

PriMed will use NextGate’s sophisticated registry platform to identify, index, and link patient records from Centricity (IDX), NextGen EHR, Dignity Health, UCSF, and multiple health plans and laboratories into a consolidated, consistent and centralized EMPI.

“An efficient MSO must provide reliable and accurate patient information in order to improve physician adoption, increase clinical collaboration, and avoid unnecessary administrative expenses.  Access to organized and consistent patient information, regardless of practice location or vendor system, empowers our member physicians and participating organizations,” said PriMed’s Chief Information Officer, Craig Lanway. “NextGate supported an earlier project of ours, and their knowledge, expertise, and technology for patient identity management is best in class.”

“As the MSO for one of the largest physician groups in the country, PriMed faces the same challenges we see in ACOs, HIEs and integrated delivery system operations.” stated Andy Aroditis, President and CEO, NextGate. “As the healthcare landscape becomes increasingly digital and interconnected, maintaining an accurate view of the same patient across disparate systems is critical. The complexities of the relationships we need to understand and map require a more sophisticated approach to identity management than ever before. We see this shift reflected in increasing demand for our platform, and we are pleased to help organizations like PriMed maintain the infrastructure required for today’s healthcare integration needs.”

NextGate EMPI uses intelligent matching algorithms to recognize related entities spread across different applications and locations, and links them together under an Enterprise ID in a comprehensive master index, enabling a secure and accurate exchange of patient information.

Merge Healthcare will unveil Merge iConnect

Despite advances in health information technology, why are patients still arriving at doctors offices with CDs containing diagnostic images (and in some cases, large film envelopes!)

One would assume a doctor could readily access x-ray, CT or other diagnostic images.  Just open the electronic health record, click a button and there’s the image.  Unfortunately, this is not the case – and your readers may want to know why.

Timely, cost-effective storage and sharing of diagnostic images is one of today’s major HIT challenges.

Consider this:

Ø       More than 700M imaging studies are done annually in US.

Ø       An average hospital system stores more than 4M patient images (100 terabytes of data.)

Ø       Even if an image has recently been secured, when patients travel between facilities, clinicians often re-order tests – -creating unnecessary expense and radiation exposure.

New technology is evolving to overcome this challenge – and early adopters such as UMass Memorial Medical Center, are leading the way.  Thanks to Merge Healthcare’s iConnect solution, nearly 700 of their physicians are now viewing images in their newly “image-enabled” Allscripts EHR.

At HIMSS 2011, Merge Healthcare (Booth #3348, Hall E) will unveil Merge iConnect, an image exchange software suite that facilitates the cost-effective sharing of diagnostic content, and provides real-time image access via any Web-enabled device.

Using an IHE compliant architecture, Merge iConnect is available in a series of vendor-agnostic modules that include:

– a zero-footprint image sharing platform — eliminates VPNs, pre-configured DICOM connections, CD transport, etc.
– a zero-download DICOM and XDS viewer for anytime/anywhere mobile access — physicians are no longer tethered to desktop computers to view diagnostic quality images
– a vendor neutral archive to consolidate diagnostic imaging data for all “‘ologies,” departments, and locations — medical images and reports are secure and easily accessible in a non-proprietary format
– a comprehensive interoperability platform that enables sharing and viewing of content across a set of heterogeneous patient IDs, source systems and data types — leverages works-in-progress from Merge including Enterprise Master Patient Index (EMPI)* and Master Data Management (MDM)* solutions
– self check-in kiosk technology with unique avatar-based, live-assist functionality — automates data capture earlier in the workflow process, eliminates paper, optimizes staff efficiency

Merge is unique in that the company offers a modular approach, enabling organizations to leverage existing technology investments and build interoperability at their own pace.  While many excellent niche solutions exist in the market to address image exchange and management, Merge is the only vendor offering a comprehensive solution suite with proven technologies and the flexibility and cost-effectiveness of modularity.

As a founding member of the long-standing DICOM standard and today’s largest vendor of DICOM toolkits, Merge has a rich, 20-year history of advancements in interoperability.  Today, while focusing deeply on image exchange, the company will also showcase some of our newest solutions across the healthcare landscape at HIMSS, including:

·         Radiology (RIS/PACS , revenue financial management, CAD for MRI)

·         Cardiology (digital integrated cardiovascular record, cath lab workflow and knowledge management)

·         Surgery (perioperative clinical information management, anesthesia information management)

·         Lab (clinical laboratory information system software and connectivity)

·         Clinical Trials (EDC, IVR/IWR, eDiaries)

Merge’s solutions for OEMS, VARs and distributors will also be presented.

Merge will participate in the 2011 HIMSS Interoperability Showcase (in conjunction with IHE), and is again one of the only radiology-centric vendors involved.
