Merge Unveils eClinical OS(TM) Marketplace and Mobile Applications at DIA

Customers Will Benefit From Electronic Document Translation, Study-Specific Training Videos, and Real Time Mobile Analytics and Visualization

CHICAGO, June 21, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Merge Healthcare Incorporated (Nasdaq:MRGE), a leading provider of clinical systems and innovations that seek to transform healthcare, today announced the eClinical OS™ Marketplace, extending its clinical trial platform to connect customers with premier industry service providers. In the latest release of eClinical OS, Marketplace allows customers to request and receive services directly from within study workflows, further enabling study sponsors and CROs to run studies more efficiently. The newest release also introduces Trial Connect, a new mobile alerts and reporting application for accessing study metrics on the go.

This connectivity further supports the company’s focus on improving study efficiency with shorter deployment times and more cost effective trial design. Users will be able to electronically request and receive document language translation, embed interactive study-specific training and patient education videos, and access real-time clinical data visualization, analytics and reporting through any mobile device.

“We’re integrating and delivering services from other best in class providers via eClinical OS; creating unprecedented value and efficiency in the industry’s leading digital clinical platform,” said Zaher El-Assi, General Manager, eClinical Solutions for Merge.

“New releases of our platform will both advance eClinical OS features and aggressively expand what’s possible for our customers within a single, cloud study solution via the Marketplace. The aggregation of premium services and software – true partnerships that provide seamless benefit to users in the cloud – enable us to deliver efficiencies that significantly improve and accelerate the clinical trials process.”

Merge integrates with TransPerfect to offer electronic transmission of documents and system text for translations within eClinical OS

Merge and TransPerfect, a premier provider of translation services to pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and healthcare companies, have partnered to streamline the translation of critical documents for global studies.

Expanding its commitment to global trials beyond support for 25 languages and real-time helpdesk interpreting, Merge eClinical now offers on-demand translation of Case Report Forms and supporting documents.

“Merge eClinical customers can now seamlessly request the translation of Case Report Forms, and their supporting documents directly from within their eClinical OS study,” explained El-Assi.

Translation is available by clicking a link next to an uploaded document. The document is pushed to TransPerfect for translation, then returned within eClinical OS.

“TransPerfect is a prime example of what we’re doing with the eClinical OS Marketplace,” continued El-Assi. “Take a premium third-party capability, which used to require a separate upload, purchase, and delivery process, and embed it within the eClinical OS study workflow. We’re able to remove steps, decrease costs and margin for error, and increase efficiency.”

Merge partners with Comprehend Systems to provide clinical data visualization, analytics and reporting

Merge and Comprehend Systems, Inc., a leading provider of end-to-end clinical data insights, partner to enable real-time analytics and visualization across multiple studies tracked within eClinical OS.

“Our partnership with Comprehend improves the way clinical researchers access, understand, explore and analyze data,” said El-Assi. “Non-technical users can create ad-hoc reports and visualizations in real-time, from numerous sources and across different trials.”

Merge eClinical OS customers will be able to use Comprehend Clinical™ analytics tools, including highlights, filters, graphs and visualizations to create, save, and share eClinical OS reports and interactive dashboards.

“Comprehend specializes in bringing intuitive data insights to clinical trials,” added El-Assi, “and is a perfect fit for eClinical OS, which exists to improve efficiency, support better decisions, and drive results.”

Merge integrates with Emmi Solutions to provide interactive training tools within eClinical OS

Merge and Emmi Solutions, a market leader in interactive solutions to achieve meaningful business and clinical outcomes, will partner to integrate high-quality, interactive training presentation within eClinical OS.

“With Emmi, our customers can create and embed interactive, on-demand training modules within eClinical OS workflows,” continued El-Assi. “eClinical OS already allows customers to build entire training programs, design and deliver comprehension tests, and track results.”

“We expect the combination of using interactive content and our strong training and competency tracking features to improve study performance for our customers, while supporting FDA and quality compliance requirements.”

Merge eClinical OS customers will be able to embed their own content, or take advantage of content made available in eClinical OS by Merge or other approved partners. Training requirements are presented to users within their eClinical OS workflow, based on site, role, or other training criteria.

“Our goal is to offer not only the tools customers need to develop and track training requirements, but for our Marketplace to serve as the leading online content provider for everything clinical trials,” concluded El-Assi.

Merge releases new mobile application for eClinical OS

In addition to aggregating premier service offerings to streamline the clinical trials process, the latest version of eClinical OS brings Trial Connect, a mobile alerts and reporting companion application, allowing users to review study data directly from any mobile web-enabled device.

“With eClinical OS Trial Connect, our clients now have a convenient way to stay connected with their team and their active studies while on the go,” said El-Assi. “Whether they need to share metrics with key stakeholders, or just want to stay in the loop while traveling, they now have critical study data at their fingertips.”

Merge will be showcasing eClinical OS’ latest enhancements at the upcoming DIA Annual Meeting in Boston, MA, booth #619.

Endpoint adjudication management embedded within an electronic data capture platform facilitates the endpoint management and adjudication process, offering a collaborative and flexible workflow for all stakeholders. Significant cost efficiencies are achieved and cycle times reduced with a single, seamless system.

“Merge eClinical has extensive experience working with the largest endpoint adjudication coordinating centers in the world. These relationships give us the unique experience to develop an endpoint adjudication module that is powerful, yet flexible enough to meet the complex requirements of all our clients. Merge’s latest enhancements to eClinical OS further our vision for delivering a unified solution for all data capture, processing and return,” said Zaher El-Assi, General Manager, eClinical Solutions of Merge. “Through its single, easy-to-use interface, built-in study templates, libraries and reports, and pay-as-you-go pricing, eClinical OS enables study sponsors and CROs to manage and run studies more efficiently than ever before.”

With Merge eClinical OS’ new Endpoint Adjudication Module, customers can:

  • Expedite cycle times with redaction tool and electronic collection of source documents
  • Auto-compile dossiers from source documents
  • Reduce costs with fewer paper documents to track, ship, and review
  • Manage paired parallel, expert review and committee workflows
  • Receive instant notifications that enable quick and efficient coordination
  • Access reviewer assignments and dossiers from anywhere, at any time

“We began using eClinical OS towards the end of last year to manage and run our studies,” explained Thomas Engels, Vice President of Clinical Affairs for CardioKinetix Inc. “We’ve already seen enhanced efficiencies and improved productivity across the board, and are excited to begin using the new endpoint adjudication module to accelerate cycle times for adjudicating events.”

As a single, web-based solution, Merge eClinical OS has the flexibility to support trials in any phase, and captures any type of data, from any source, over any modality. With a complete menu of clinical trial capabilities that can be mixed and matched, eClinical OS builds a solid foundation for each trial environment. Merge eClinical OS also has the scalability to grow if a trial increases in size, number or complexity.

NorthWise Services Partners With Merge to Offer Comprehensive Clinical Trial Services

eClinical OS(TM) Provides Single Platform for Clinical Study Data Capture, Processing and Reporting

CHICAGO, Feb. 14, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Merge Healthcare Incorporated (Nasdaq:MRGE), a leading provider of clinical systems and innovations that seek to transform healthcare, today announced that NorthWise Services (NWS) has partnered with Merge and selected eClinical OS™ to collect, manage and report on clinical trials data across all studies.

NWS is a specialist CRO offering services in data management, statistics and medical writing. Its services are complementary to the offerings of Merge, which has allowed for a strong and active working partnership to develop.

“NWS has always supported products at the forefront of eClinical technology, but in the past this tended to be separated into different software tools for EDC, ePRO, IVR, etc.,” explained Dr. Philip North, Managing Director of NorthWise Services. “It is therefore very appealing now to be able to access a wide range of eClinical functions on a single web-based platform, with just one user login and password.”

Recognizing the potential benefits of eClinical OS in collecting, managing and reporting clinical trials data across all phases, NWS has arranged to have its own eClinical OS certified study builder, who can now build studies for clients using eClinical OS.

“We were pleased with how easy it was for our study builder to become qualified and certified in the use of eClinical OS,” continued Dr. North. “Merge provided NWS access to eClinical OS in a sandbox environment during the self-training process. Because of this, the qualification was quickly and entirely achieved, using only the extensive online training materials available within eClinical OS. The built-in training materials were intuitive and thorough. Our staff did not require any additional help from Merge – though that would have been available if needed.”

Cost transparency using eClinical OS’s self-service quoting tool was also a benefit to NWS.

“The cost calculator tool has been very valuable,” added Dr. North. “Not only is Merge eClinical OS competitive in the eClinical marketplace, but this tool allows us to remain competitive when bidding on a new study with our sponsor clients.”

“With eClinical OS, NWS has deep visibility into the cost of its studies,” said Justin Dearborn, President of Merge Healthcare. “We designed a cost calculator into the system which allows our clients to generate their own quotes and create budget scenarios in real-time. This provides them with the decision support tools to balance options and costs.”

Merge eClinical OS provides end-to-end study support through a single, easy-to-use interface allowing clients to manage and run studies more efficiently than ever before. It delivers built-in study templates, libraries and reports to help users create studies quickly and manage them effectively without technical assistance. Merge eClinical OS works for the largest and smallest studies, has the flexibility to support trials in any phase, and captures any type of data, from any source, from any modality.

Datapharm Australia Selects Merge eClinical OS(TM) for Enterprise-Wide Electronic Data Capture

Solution Provides Comprehensive Suite of EDC Tools; Flexibility to Mix and Match Features

CHICAGO, Oct. 4, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Merge Healthcare Incorporated (Nasdaq:MRGE), a leading provider of clinical systems and innovations that seek to transform healthcare, today announced that Datapharm Australia Pty Ltd. has selected Merge’s eClinical OS™ solution to bring EDC in-house and provide control of electronic case report form (eCRF) creation and mid-study adjustments.

“We’ve seen an increase in the number of our clients’ studies requiring EDC. Previously, we outsourced EDC projects to a third party vendor to handle eCRF setup,” explained Dr. Helen Allars, Managing Director at Datapharm Australia. “We found that we spent more time and resources managing this process and dealing with support issues. This approach also lacked the flexibility and control for mid-study changes.”

In 2010, Datapharm began an extensive EDC vendor evaluation, which included 14 vendors who could offer in-licensing of software for use across an enterprise, also referred to as technology transfer. Datapharm’s evaluation criteria consisted of a comprehensive suite of EDC tools, time to deployment, and overall costs associated with technology transfer.

“eClinical OS provided all the EDC features we needed – such as 21 CFR Part 11 and CDISC compliance, Hybrid/DDE, CRF library, reporting, data upload and exporting, medical coding, and monitoring tools – as well the opportunity to add patient reported outcomes, interactive response, randomization and inventory management if a particular study called for it,” continued Allars. “We were most impressed with how intuitive and flexible the system is, whether we are creating eCRFs or even making mid-study changes.”

“Companies that are bringing our solution in-house are doing so because they recognize that eClinical OS provides a strategic tool in their pursuit to provide more efficient, cost-effective clinical trials services,” said Justin Dearborn, President of Merge Healthcare. “Datapharm has taken the first critical step to yield the greatest efficiencies and financial rewards of using our eClinical technologies to simplify and accelerate the way they perform clinical trials.”

Merge eClinical OS is a unified platform delivering end-to-end study support. Clinical trial capabilities can be mixed and matched to build a solid foundation for each trial environment, and features and services can be added as needed, directly from within the system. As a single, web-based solution, it has the flexibility to support trials in any phase, and captures any type of data, from any source, over any modality. Merge eClinical OS also has the scalability to grow if a trial increases in size, number or complexity.
