152 VA Medical Centers to Implement Intelligent InSites to Improve Health Care Efficiency

Intelligent InSites to Provide Enterprise-Wide Software Solution for Department of Veterans Affairs’ $543 Million RTLS Contract

Fargo, ND – February 20, 2013 – Intelligent InSites, Inc., the leading provider of real-time operational intelligence for healthcare in the government and commercial sectors, has been selected to provide the enterprise-wide software solution for the Department of Veterans Affairs’  (VA) $543 million Real Time Location System (RTLS) contract, as a subcontractor to the prime contractor, HP Enterprise Services.

The five-year contract will provide 152 medical centers in the 21 Veterans Integrated Service Networks (VISNs) and seven Consolidated Medical Outpatient Pharmacy facilities with a real-time, system-wide solution to help improve operational efficiency, quality, satisfaction, and compliance. The solution supports VA’s objectives to decrease operational costs, reduce delays in patient care, and increase clinical efficiencies and staff productivity.

“The flexibility of the Intelligent InSites platform, including its ability to empower multiple applications to deliver real-time operational intelligence across multiple use cases and multiple facilities, supports VA’s vision to improve health care efficiency across the VA enterprise,” said Kimberly Brayley, Director, RTLS Project Management Office, Veterans Health Administration.

Real-Time Operational Intelligence

By automatically collecting data from millions of RTLS and RFID tags on VA medical equipment, surgical instruments, and supplies, the Intelligent InSites solution will provide VA with unprecedented visibility, analytics, and intelligence into its operational processes.  Initial use cases include asset management, cath lab supply management, sterile processing workflow, and automated temperature monitoring.  Future use cases include patient wander management, hand hygiene monitoring, emergency department workflow, and operating room workflow.

Enterprise-Wide Architecture

The Intelligent InSites software platform is designed to span multiple hospitals across large healthcare systems, aggregating and processing data to provide real-time operational intelligence at the department level, hospital level, and healthcare system level.  At the level of a VA Medical Center, the Intelligent InSites solution will help VA employees impact operational processes and patient care in real time.  At a regional and national level, the enterprise-wide capabilities of the Intelligent InSites platform will allow VA to monitor, benchmark, and improve system-wide operational performance and process improvement initiatives, resulting in increased healthcare efficiency and improved Veteran care.

Open Platform, Open APIs

A fundamental aspect of the Intelligent InSites solution is the ability for 3rd-party developers, IT departments, and healthcare solution providers to build real-time-enabled solutions on the Intelligent InSites software platform, or to integrate with the Intelligent InSites solution to provide or leverage real-time information from across the enterprise.  Everything within the Intelligent InSites platform is accessible through open application programming interfaces (APIs), allowing developers to easily build new solutions and leverage the real-time operational intelligence within the Intelligent InSites solution.

For VA, current integrations to the Intelligent InSites platform include Censis Technologies for sterile processing and surgical instrument tracking, WaveMark for cath lab supply management, and VA’s asset management solution, AEMS/MERS.  In addition, Intelligent InSites will integrate with VA’s electronic health record software, VistA CPRS, to augment operational processes with contextually-relevant clinical data.

“The VA healthcare system is a recognized leader in healthcare—both for the quality of their clinical care and for their use of healthcare information technology to transform and improve their operations and patient care,” said Margaret Laub, President and CEO of Intelligent InSites.  “As the current enterprise platform provider to VA for its successful deployment across the seven medical centers of VISN 11, we are extremely honored to expand our service to the VA and provide system-wide service to our nation’s Veterans.”

About Intelligent InSites

Intelligent InSites helps transform healthcare with real-time operational intelligence that improves care, enhances the human experience, and increases efficiency. Harris Corporation to Acquire Carefx — A Leading Provider of Healthcare Interoperability Workflow Solutions

MELBOURNE, FL/SCOTTSDALE, AZ, February 22, 2011 – Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire privately held Carefx Corporation, a leading provider of interoperability workflow solutions built on its popular Fusionfx platform.  The acquisition will expand Harris’ capabilities in government healthcare, provide an entry into the commercial healthcare market, and strengthen its overall position as a leading provider of interoperability solutions.

Founded in 2002, Carefx is headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona and has nearly 250 employees worldwide.  The company’s Fusionfx platform is an interoperable, intuitive solution suite that incorporates the latest standards-based technologies and industry best practices to streamline retrieval, access and use of patient information.  Fusionfx aggregates patient information across existing systems and delivers it in a single, clear, clinically relevant view to physicians at the point of care — enabling them to offer a more consistent, higher quality experience for the patient, reducing clinical errors and increasing individual productivity.

The Fusionfx platform is used in more than 800 hospitals, healthcare systems, and health information exchanges across North America, Europe and Asia.  Carefx customers include the Boston Medical Center, Emory University Hospital, Northwestern Medical Hospital, the Louisiana Rural Health Information Exchange, Johns Hopkins Health System and Cambridge University Hospitals.

Carefx also partners with the industry’s leading infrastructure and healthcare information technology vendors, including Cerner, GE Healthcare, IBM and Oracle.

“This acquisition will enable Harris to provide an expanded range of interoperability solutions to both government and commercial healthcare providers,” said Howard L. Lance, chairman, president and chief executive officer, Harris Corporation.  “Carefx serves high-growth markets.  Their product suite and sales channels will position Harris to deliver trusted, comprehensive workflow integration that ultimately leads to better care and lower healthcare costs.”

“Carefx has been transforming the way hospitals and healthcare providers achieve interoperability between disparate systems – and achieve federal requirements for Meaningful Use,” said Jim Traficant, vice president and general manager, Harris Healthcare Solutions.  “By giving clinicians the information they need – where and when they need it – the Fusionfx solution suite creates a seamless end-user experience.”

Under the terms of the agreement, Harris will purchase Carefx for $155 million in cash, subject to post-closing adjustments.  The acquisition of Carefx is subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to close in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2011.  Harris will finance the acquisition using a combination of cash on hand and commercial paper.

Harris has provided interoperability solutions for large-scale health information exchange enterprises such as the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Defense, and the Social Security Administration.  Harris also has effectively extended federal interoperability solutions to the private sector where over half of all care is provided for active duty and retired service members.  In addition, Harris was recently selected to create the Florida statewide health information exchange (HIE) to enable greater interoperability among care providers across the state.

Harris provides a range of healthcare enterprise intelligence solutions and services for commercial and government customers, including interoperability, imaging, managed services infrastructure, systems and cyber integration, and informatics.  Harris products, systems, and services improve health outcomes by ensuring that the right information is delivered with security and privacy to the right person, on the right device, at the point of care.

“We are excited about the opportunity to explore the value of displaying critical data from a veteran’s medical record on a mobile platform such as the iPhone or iPad,” said Dr. Neil Evans, Associate Chief of Staff for Informatics at the Washington DC Veterans Affairs Medical Center.  “We anticipate that providing real-time, on-the-go information to providers and patients at the point of care will translate into better quality of care and improved satisfaction, both for our patients and the healthcare team.
