Wolters Kluwer Health’s Sentri7® Patient Surveillance Software Receives High Marks in Two Recent KLAS Reports

Bellevue, Wash. — Aug. 21, 2012— Wolters Kluwer Health, a leading global provider of information for healthcare professionals and students, announced today that a recent KLAS report found that 92% of customers who had purchased its Sentri7® Infection Prevention* patient surveillance technology would buy again. Infection Control Systems 2012: Breaking Barriers and Getting Value also reported that Sentri7 Infection Prevention had earned an overall performance score of 88.5% and rated well in all functional areas with no gaps in satisfaction scores.

Another KLAS report, Clinical Decision Support 2011: Understanding the Impact, rated Pharmacy OneSource Sentri7 as having the highest impact on quality outcomes when compared to other types of clinical decision support tools currently being used in the healthcare market. The product achieved a positive impact score of greater than 80%.

Sentri7® is a web-based platform that aggregates, monitors and delivers patient data in real-time from disparate hospital information systems to assist providers in delivering optimum patient care, reducing drug costs, and improving outcomes. The smart logic contained within the electronic surveillance system allows for a rules-based approach to infection prevention that targets specific conditions to support hospital quality initiatives.

For the Infection Control Systems report, KLAS, an independent healthcare IT vendor research firm that recognizes healthcare vendors for their leadership in working with customers to ensure satisfaction, spoke with 119 providers managing infection control processes on paper and 202 currently using an infection control system. The research specifically focused on system performance for National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) reporting, analytics, interfacing and ability to enhance the efforts of infection prevention professionals.

For the Clinical Decision Support report, KLAS interviewed 404 providers to rate the performance of a variety of decision support tools including care plans, diagnostic decision support tools, disease reference tools, drug databases, drug reference tools, order sets and surveillance tools. The impact was measured by asking providers to rate the influence the various tools had on clinical decisions and standardizing care.

“The stakes are high for patient safety. Using electronic surveillance technology is a critical strategy for hospitals seeking to eliminate healthcare-associated infections and maximize reimbursement in the era of value-based purchasing,” said Tim Gibbons, Vice President & General Manager, Pharmacy OneSource, Wolters Kluwer Health Clinical Solutions. “We are pleased to have received these high scores from customers and believe it demonstrates our commitment to delivering technology to help them identify potential HAI earlier and provide treatment options to reduce overall healthcare cost.  This truly shapes the future of healthcare.”

Quest Diagnostics Expands Interoperability of Care360 EHR with Direct Project Specifications

Enhancements to Care360™ EHR Provide Physicians with the Ability to Securely Share Patient Information Across Disparate Systems

MADISON, N.J. – February 22, 2011 – Quest Diagnostics (NYSE: DGX) announced the general availability of the next release of its Care360™ Electronic Health Record (EHR) solution designed to significantly enhance the interoperability of Care360 EHR by supporting the Direct Project specifications, which were established by the Direct Project under the coordination of the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC). These protocols will enable physicians to more effectively exchange data with hospitals, patients, payers and other healthcare providers in a secure email format.

“Through our role leading the development workgroups and pilot projects, we are the only laboratory and EHR solution provider to date to integrate the Direct Project specifications into our product, affirming our commitment to proactively advancing greater HIT adoption among physicians,” said Richard A. Mahoney, vice president of healthcare information solutions for Quest Diagnostics and president of its healthcare IT subsidiary MedPlus. “The Direct Project is one of the most significant steps forward in accelerating EHR interoperability by improving the communication among physicians, hospitals, laboratories, health plans, health information exchanges and patients.”

The Direct Project is an initiative of the ONC for Health IT to extend the benefits of health information exchange to individual physicians and small practices who have limited resources and technology assets to meet requirements for Meaningful Use of EHRs. Since the ONC announced the formation of the Direct Project last year, MedPlus has played a significant role in the development of standards through its participation in workgroups and one of the eight pilots. In the pilot, Care360 EHR is demonstrating early use of the Direct Project specifications and has incorporated those capabilities into its generally-available Care360 EHR solution to improve overall coordination of care and assist with Meaningful Use objectives.

“For my patients, especially those who see multiple physicians, the addition of the Direct Project specifications into Care360 EHR is a tremendous leap forward for exchanging clinical data securely with their other healthcare providers,” said Paulo Andre, MD, neurologist at MetroWest Medical Center, and medical director of MetroWest Accountable Health Care. “I strongly believe that when you improve communication you improve care, and ultimately empower patients with the information they need to better manage their health.”

In addition, Care360 EHR now provides Clinical Decision Support (CDS), which analyzes data from a variety of clinical data sources, providing a comprehensive view of a patient’s current medical condition. The CDS engine, embedded with more than 29,000 evidence-based clinical rules — such as gaps in care, drug safety, lab rules, Meaningful Use, HEDIS, and HCC — will leverage clinical data from pharmacy claims and lab results, and combine this information with physician-entered data to generate gaps-in-care reports for Care360 users. The CDS engine will also provide data on all 44 clinical quality measures for eligible professionals for Stage 1 Meaningful Use, and provide a path to Stage 2 of Meaningful Use.

Adoption of the Care360 EHR solution continues to grow among small to medium-size physician practices across the nation. Approximately one third of U.S. physicians—and many of the country’s leading hospitals, health plans and regional health exchanges—currently rely on healthcare information solutions developed by MedPlus to document, analyze and monitor diagnostic, prescription and clinical data to provide better patient care. Because Care360 EHR is Web-based, there is no dedicated IT server hardware or infrastructure required, which shortens implementation time and reduces the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). Physicians can access secure patient information anywhere, anytime, from any fixed or mobile Internet browser.

Additional Upgrades to Care360 EHR include:

* The ability to send basic reminders and share clinical histories with patients.
* The ability to refer and interoperate with care providers on other EHR systems, including support for CCD as the content standard and support for Direct Project specifications for transport standards.
* An electronic interface to community data sources allowing the physician to receive external documents and patient charts.
* Support for Meaningful Use quality and utilization measures reporting and submission to allow eligible providers to generate, track and report necessary measures to CMS to qualify for Meaningful Use incentives.
* The ability for providers to report to state immunization registries and syndromic surveillance registries.
* Support for flexible, template-based ways to address state regulations for prescription faxes.
* The ability to access patient-specific educational resources.

Community Memorial Health System to Deploy ProVation Order Sets, powered by UpToDate Decision Support

MINNEAPOLIS, MN (Dec. 13, 2010) – Wolters Kluwer Health, a leading global provider of information for healthcare professionals and students, announced today that Community Memorial Health System has selected ProVation(R) Order Sets, powered by UpToDate(R) Decision Support, as the electronic order set solution for its two hospitals.

Located in Ventura, Calif., Community Memorial Health System is a community-owned, not-for-profit health system comprised of Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura and Ojai Valley Community Hospital in Ojai, as well as nine family-practice health centers serving various communities within Ventura County. Both hospitals are Joint Commission-accredited, and Community Memorial is home to a heart and vascular program that is an American College of Cardiology Gold Award recipient as well as recipient of the Blue Cross Blue Distinction for Cardiac Care.

ProVation Order Sets, powered by UpToDate Decision Support, is an easily customizable order set authoring and management solution that provides flexible integration into clinical processes to streamline the delivery of standardized care for improved patient safety, outcomes, clinician performance and regulatory compliance. ProVation Order Sets is built upon ProVation Medical’s award-winning, clinician-designed technology platform. One of its primary values is the continuous updates to clinical content and medical evidence, including direct links to UpToDate, the resource of choice for more than 400,000 clinicians worldwide.

Central to this capability is the One Click Updates tool, which leverages UpToDate’s Practice Changing Updates, which highlights new recommendations that could potentially change usual clinical practice. Enabled by a unique, structured approach to data management, One Click Updates alerts end users to evidence that may trigger the need to modify particular order sets. It then enables users to review recommended updates and apply them in a single step across multiple order sets.

UpToDate covers more than 8,300 topics in 17 medical specialties and includes more than 97,000 pages of text and graphics, as well as links to Medline abstracts, more than 385,000 references and a drug database. Content is continuously reviewed and updated by physician editors and authors.

Further, to help facilities achieve the highest possible degree of automation, ProVation Order Sets features vendor-neutral mapping and export capabilities that allow for flexible integration into any facility or vendor EMR or CPOE system.

“Community Memorial Health System is an organization committed to serving as the integrated health system of choice for its patients, physicians and employees by providing the latest treatments and by adhering to its shared values of integrity, service, excellence, caring and transparency,” said Arvind Subramanian, President and CEO, Wolters Kluwer Health Clinical Solutions. “We are pleased that it has chosen ProVation Order Sets, powered by UpToDate Decision Support, to help advance that mission by providing clinical decision support at the point of care.”
