Aprima Medical Software Acquires EHR Reseller Healthcare Data Solutions

Aprima to provide ongoing support to HDS’s 300 provider clients across U.S.

Dallas, TX (January 18, 2017) – Aprima Medical Software, a leading provider of innovative electronic health records (EHR), practice management (PM) and revenue cycle management (RCM) solutions for medical practices, today announced the acquisition of a former reseller Healthcare Data Solutions (HDS) of Coral Cables, FL. As part of the agreement, Aprima will assume full support for HDS’s customers, which include approximately 300 providers in 125 medical practices across 15 states. Financial terms were not disclosed.

HDS works with physician groups across the country to identify IT solutions that best fit their needs and to implement and support their ongoing system needs.

As a whole over the same period, Aprima has experienced annual double-digit growth in revenue and EBITDA and maintained a 98 percent customer retention rate.

Healthcare Professionals Say Trump Administration Will Improve U.S. Healthcare System

Aprima survey also reveals physicians and administrators predict changes to Obamacare but no repeal; and a reduction in regulatory burdens for providers

Dallas, TX (December 6, 2016) – Aprima Medical Software, a leading provider of innovative electronic health records (EHR), practice management (PM) and revenue cycle management solutions (RCM) for medical practices, today announced the results of a post-presidential election survey of healthcare professionals, which explored predictions for healthcare under a Trump administration. The majority of the 312 physicians and practice staff participating in the survey (52%) believe a Trump presidency will improve healthcare in the U.S, while 48% anticipate a positive financial impact on their practice.

*Findings based on a November, 2017 Aprima Medical Software survey of 313 healthcare professionals.

The majority of healthcare professionals (62%) also expect changes to some aspects of the Affordable Care Act, though less than one-third expect a total repeal. Fifty-nine percent are optimistic that physician practices will experience a decrease in regulatory burdens, though respondents were divided in terms of the potential impact on provider compensation models and on patient access to care.

“This presidential election cycle was one of the most unpredictable in recent history and we were curious to understand what customers and prospects believe the impact will be on our industry,” said Michael Nissenbaum, CEO and president of Aprima. “I think it’s particularly notable that the majority of the survey participants expect a Trump administration to be better for healthcare than what we’ve experienced under the Obama administration, though 30% predict it will be worse. Healthcare providers, like the rest of the country, appear cautiously optimistic, though not overwhelmingly convinced that we’ll see positive changes under the new administration.”

The survey, which was emailed to almost 19,000 healthcare professionals following the November 8 election, allowed participants to clarify why they believed healthcare would be better or worse under a Trump administration. Many expressed predictions that certain aspects of Obamacare will be repealed and replaced with programs that include fewer regulatory burdens on providers and lower premiums for consumers. Other healthcare professionals voiced concerns that the number of uninsured patients will increase and create additional burdens on the industry.

“The survey results reflect some uncertainty about how provider compensation will be impacted,” said Nissenbaum. “In recent years, we have seen a shift from fee-for-service compensation models to plans that reward providers for cost-effective care and quality-outcomes. Though 38% of the healthcare professionals predict we’ll continue in this direction, 40% believe we’ll see a shift back to fee-for-service. Participants were also evenly split in terms of how patient access to care will be affected, with 36% anticipating access becoming more difficult and 36% predicting no significant impact to accessibility.”

Of those responding to the survey, 89% were affiliated with independent physician offices and included both Aprima customers and non-customers. Physicians and other clinical professionals represented 52% of the participants, while 48% were administrative staff members.

Nearly 200 Former Customers of Allscripts MyWay™ Are Currently Live on Aprima EHR and PM

Providers cite better training and support, easier billing and faster payments among the benefits of switching to Aprima.

Dallas, TX (March 22, 2013) – Aprima Medical Software announced today that nearly 200 former customers of Allscripts MyWay™ have gone live with Aprima in the six months since Allscripts announced it would not develop or update the Allscripts MyWay™ product to be in compliance with government incentives and requirements such as Meaningful Use and ICD-10. After an intentionally cautious start to the roll out to ensure success, providers have recently been going live on Aprima at a rate of 20 per week – a number that Aprima expects will grow significantly as existing contracts get implemented and word continues to get out about the benefits of upgrading to Aprima.

For Dr. Lauranne Harris, the financial benefits were almost instantly apparent. For months before upgrading to Aprima, her practice had struggled with the Allscripts MyWay™ billing module. The situation was immediately resolved after upgrading to Aprima. “The day after the practice went live a professional trainer arrived to train us on Aprima. We got $100K in billing out the door that day and within a week, we had received $25,000 in payments,” Dr. Harris recalled.
J. Woodson Dermatology & Associates reaped benefits that were nothing less than the driving reason to go paperless. Thanks to Aprima EHR’s “one click” insurance eligibility checking, the practice no longer has to assign a full-time employee to this previously tedious task. “There was nothing comparable to that in Allscripts MyWay™,” practice administrator Lori Haynie said.

J. Woodson Dermatology & Associates is currently scanning all of its images and charts within the Aprima EHR, another functionality that, according to Haynie, Allscripts neglected to train the practice how to use. But Haynie noted that these are the type of features that benefit practices and patients alike. “With Aprima, the practice sees the labor savings, but our patients ‘see’ the upgrade, too. For example, they no longer have to wait on the phone for lab results; the results are right there in Aprima. We’re getting to a point where soon they won’t even have to wait to fill out forms. They can do that in advance in Aprima,” she said.

 

Because the Allscripts MyWay™ product was originally based on the source code that Allscripts licensed from Aprima in 2008, customers have also benefited from a quick upgrade. Typically this upgrade is just a couple of days – often over a weekend – minimizing any disruption to their practice. The upgrade process includes verifying their data in Aprima before going live.

Customers have reacted very positively to the Aprima upgrade process. Almost universally they have said they are very relieved that they don’t have to go through a potentially arduous and time-consuming migration to a completely different system, where they might not retain all of their data and could be required to reduce patient load for days or weeks.

“Our traction with Allscripts MyWay™ upgrade orders continues to be very strong; in fact, we believe we will end up with between 1,200 and 1,500 providers – as much as 45% of providers that were actually installed on the Allscripts MyWay™ system, depending on which reports in the marketplace you believe to be accurate,” stated Michael Nissenbaum, Aprima president and CEO. “Virtually all of our newly upgraded practices have commented favorably on Aprima’s support team, or their reseller’s, and are very appreciative of our fast and personalized responses to their inquiries. New Healthcare Interoperability Standard for Clinical Documents by Fujitsu and Osmozyz Identified by ONC

Fujitsu Network Scanning Solutions Designed to Meet HL7 Clinical Document Architecture (CDA®) Standard For Converting Paper Charts Into “Smart” Documents Interoperable With Any Healthcare System

LAS VEGAS, Nev., October 24, 2011 — Fujitsu, the market leader in document imaging scanners, and Osmosyz, experts in document interoperability, today announced the availability of a new product suite that supports the use of exchange standards which have been identified by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC). Fujitsu and Osmosyz, along with the Health Story Project, a collaborative of healthcare vendors, providers and associations, worked for two years through the HL7 International standards development organization to develop and publish an implementation guideline for unstructured clinical documents. The “Unstructured Document” standard, based on the HL7 Clinical Document Architecture (CDA®), offers healthcare organizations a powerful on-ramp to healthcare information exchange through basic document management workflow guidelines that are now universally recognized and accepted.

Today, based upon the unstructured document standard, Fujitsu is launching the first and only solution of its kind designed to support Meaningful Use Stage 1 requirements and meet anticipated requirements for Stage 2, as defined in the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act. The Fujitsu ScanSnap N1800 Network Scanner and ScanSnap fi-6010N iScanner, equipped with Inofile ChartMD software from Osmosyz, gives healthcare organizations the ability to make clinical documents, such as paper-based clinical notes and other encounter-related documents, available across multiple systems in an electronic format that meets international standards for information exchange. How Do Healthcare Organizations of Any Size Get Started?

Clinicians in the U.S. create more than a billion clinical notes each year. More than 60% of the full patient narrative resides in these unstructured documents and outside of discreet data elements within an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) database. These notes are often used as the primary source of information for reimbursement and proof of service. With established data standards such as the new standard for “Unstructured Documents,” the output can easily be integrated with EMR systems and Health Information Exchanges (HIE), providing a low-cost and universally accepted path to interoperability. Network Scanning: Apply Data Standards, Integrate With EMRs, Increase Workplace Efficiency

The biggest challenges in meeting new government requirements while adhering to standards are the cost and complexity of the technology involved. In today’s economy, the time and resources required to train users and deploy new technology can be crippling to healthcare providers.
