46% of U.S. Physician Groups plan to join a Health Information Exchange (HIE)

Nearly 200 Former Customers of Allscripts MyWay™ Are Currently Live on Aprima EHR and PM

Providers cite better training and support, easier billing and faster payments among the benefits of switching to Aprima.

Dallas, TX (March 22, 2013) – Aprima Medical Software announced today that nearly 200 former customers of Allscripts MyWay™ have gone live with Aprima in the six months since Allscripts announced it would not develop or update the Allscripts MyWay™ product to be in compliance with government incentives and requirements such as Meaningful Use and ICD-10. After an intentionally cautious start to the roll out to ensure success, providers have recently been going live on Aprima at a rate of 20 per week – a number that Aprima expects will grow significantly as existing contracts get implemented and word continues to get out about the benefits of upgrading to Aprima.

For Dr. Lauranne Harris, the financial benefits were almost instantly apparent. For months before upgrading to Aprima, her practice had struggled with the Allscripts MyWay™ billing module. The situation was immediately resolved after upgrading to Aprima. “The day after the practice went live a professional trainer arrived to train us on Aprima. We got $100K in billing out the door that day and within a week, we had received $25,000 in payments,” Dr. Harris recalled.
J. Woodson Dermatology & Associates reaped benefits that were nothing less than the driving reason to go paperless. Thanks to Aprima EHR’s “one click” insurance eligibility checking, the practice no longer has to assign a full-time employee to this previously tedious task. “There was nothing comparable to that in Allscripts MyWay™,” practice administrator Lori Haynie said.

J. Woodson Dermatology & Associates is currently scanning all of its images and charts within the Aprima EHR, another functionality that, according to Haynie, Allscripts neglected to train the practice how to use. But Haynie noted that these are the type of features that benefit practices and patients alike. “With Aprima, the practice sees the labor savings, but our patients ‘see’ the upgrade, too. For example, they no longer have to wait on the phone for lab results; the results are right there in Aprima. We’re getting to a point where soon they won’t even have to wait to fill out forms. They can do that in advance in Aprima,” she said.

 

Because the Allscripts MyWay™ product was originally based on the source code that Allscripts licensed from Aprima in 2008, customers have also benefited from a quick upgrade. Typically this upgrade is just a couple of days – often over a weekend – minimizing any disruption to their practice. The upgrade process includes verifying their data in Aprima before going live.

Customers have reacted very positively to the Aprima upgrade process. Almost universally they have said they are very relieved that they don’t have to go through a potentially arduous and time-consuming migration to a completely different system, where they might not retain all of their data and could be required to reduce patient load for days or weeks.

“Our traction with Allscripts MyWay™ upgrade orders continues to be very strong; in fact, we believe we will end up with between 1,200 and 1,500 providers – as much as 45% of providers that were actually installed on the Allscripts MyWay™ system, depending on which reports in the marketplace you believe to be accurate,” stated Michael Nissenbaum, Aprima president and CEO. “Virtually all of our newly upgraded practices have commented favorably on Aprima’s support team, or their reseller’s, and are very appreciative of our fast and personalized responses to their inquiries. Health Care Providers Give Cloud Vendors High Marks on Security

Yet 66% of non-cloud users say security and control are still an issue with cloud adoption

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana – Wednesday, March 6, 2013 -With an average satisfaction score of 4.5 out of 5 on security, cloud users feel safe. Non-cloud users though remain at bay-particularly with many questions still looming around the future of cloud computing in healthcare. The KLAS report titled Cloud Computing Perception 2013: The Hybrid Cloud in Healthcare looks at the evolution of the cloud in healthcare, provider concerns, as well as vendor performance.

Given the near-perfect satisfaction scores that cloud-users gave to their vendors, 66% of non-users surveyed said security was definitely the main issue stopping them from moving forward with adoption.

“The contrast in this report between cloud users and non-users is really telling.” said Erik Westerlind, research director and report author. “It really helps providers and vendors get a sense of the gaps that exist within current cloud offerings. Furthermore, providers will understand which vendors might be able to resolve their concerns.”

KLAS Offers First-Ever EPR/PAS Performance Report to Healthcare Providers across the UK and Ireland

Groundbreaking study provides in-depth report on voice of healthcare providers.

Top Healthcare Organizations Embrace Windows 8 to Advance Patient Care

At HIMSS13, providers such as Pediatric Associates showcase promise of Windows 8 to meet the productivity, collaboration and security needs of the healthcare industry.

NEW ORLEANS — March 4, 2013 — At the HIMSS13 Annual Conference and Exhibition, Microsoft Corp. today announced new healthcare customers and partners that showcased Windows 8 solutions as part of a comprehensive approach to meeting mobility, productivity and collaboration goals within hospital and practice settings. With more than 850 health apps currently in the Windows Store available to healthcare providers, Windows 8 offers a platform for the next generation of apps poised to change the way the healthcare organizations connect with each other and patients, enabling a more integrated and patient-centric health system.

Cleveland Clinic is exploring the capabilities of Windows 8 and new Intel-powered mobile devices that enable clinicians to view a risk-stratified list of patients and call up their latest medical information.

Pediatric Associates recognizes the continuing need to provide innovative ways in delivering key medical information to our providers while caring for patients. This pilot enables them to meet this need by seamlessly delivering protected health information in the Greenway PrimeMOBILE app via Windows 8 devices wherever the clinician or patient may be.

Electronic Medical Record Apps

Clinicians and nurses are leveraging Electronic Medical Record (EMR) apps to access patient information securely in a healthcare setting, allowing them to make more informed decisions about patient health, collaborate more effectively across teams and improve the overall health outcomes of patients.

• Greenway developed the PrimeMOBILE app for Windows 8, which provides complete remote access to patient data housed in Greenway’s EHR solution, allowing providers to view patient history and problem lists, progress notes, and appointment schedules encompassing a healthcare provider’s entire patient population in a secure manner. PrimeMOBILE, a business-to-business app, gives physicians and other clinicians access to the most-common functionality of the Greenway PrimeSUITE EHR.

Further, EMR providers from Epic to AllScripts are showcasing their integration with Windows 8 at HIMSS.

Clinical Reference Apps

Physicians are constantly on the go, moving between patients and from the hospital to the physicians’ offices. Clinical reference apps enable physicians to access information and make evidence-based recommendations about patient care.

UpToDate allows providers to find clinical answers at the point of care or anywhere they need them by allowing them to access current, synthesized clinical information from UpToDate, including evidence-based recommendations, quickly and easily on a Windows 8 phone or Windows 8 tablet.

• The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality developed a Windows 8 version of its Electronic Preventive Services Selector (ePSS) app, which is designed to help primary care clinicians identify the screening, counseling and preventive medication services that are appropriate for their patients. ePSS brings information on clinical preventive services that clinicians need, recommendations, clinical considerations, and selected practice tools, to the point of care.

Consumer Health Apps

Windows 8 applications are also empowering patients to be more engaged as active participants in their own health.

• Johnson & Johnson Services Inc. has partnered with Microsoft on the launch of the Digital Health Scorecard app for Windows 8. The Scorecard aims to address the growing prevalence of chronic diseases around the world by introducing the concept of a personal health score. The health score is a new, consumer-friendly metric that can be quickly calculated by answering just seven questions about essential health behaviors and measures. It’s like a “credit score” for your health. “The app helps people recognize where they currently stand with their health,” said Michael Weinberger, director of Marketplace Innovation at Johnson & Johnson. “But just as important, it gives them the critical insight they need to have conversations with their doctor and begin making the changes that can lead to longer, healthier, happier lives.”

• The CDC application is a way for consumers to access health information at their fingertips, featuring important health articles, popular journals, timely updates and access to social media to coincide with important health concerns and events that consumers can use to protect their lives and loved ones.

• Mayo Clinic offers a free app called Mayo Clinic on Pregnancy, which is available in the Windows Store. Available for desktop, laptop and tablet users on the Windows 8 platform, Mayo Clinic on Pregnancy is a trustworthy guide to pregnancy, childbirth and baby’s first three months. It was developed by Mayo Clinic to leverage the medical and lifestyle expertise of a team of Mayo’s pregnancy experts in obstetrics and gynecology, genetics, nutrition, midwifery, and lactation.

“Getting pregnant and becoming a parent are among the most significant experiences in a person’s life and can be overwhelming,” said Roger Harms, M.D., a Mayo Clinic specialist in obstetrics and gynecology, and senior medical director for operations in Mayo Clinic’s Global Business Solutions division. “Windows 8 provided an easy-to-use platform for Mayo Clinic to develop an app to guide consumers from conception to delivery, and see them through the first three months with their newborn to give them peace of mind and enhance their sense of wonder throughout the experience.”

• A Microsoft HealthVault app for Windows 8 will soon be available to consumers in the Windows Store. HealthVault enables consumers to collect, store and securely share their personal health information, and connects to hundreds of third-party services and devices that make it easy to keep that information up to date. Cerner, McKesson, Allscripts, athenahealth, Greenway and RelayHealth Announce Ground Breaking Alliance to Enable Integrated Health Care

First-of-its-kind effort to transform quality and cost effectiveness by enabling data liquidity across systems, settings and episodes of care

New Orleans, March 4, 2013 – Top health care information technology (HIT) companies Cerner, McKesson, Allscripts, athenahealth, Greenway Medical Technologies® and RelayHealth announced today the launch of the CommonWell Health Alliance™, planned to be an independent not-for-profit organization that will support universal, trusted access to health care data through seamless interoperability. This historic effort is aimed at improving the quality of care delivery while working to lower costs for care providers, patients and the industry as a whole.

The Alliance intends to be a collaborative effort of suppliers who are focused on achieving data liquidity between systems, in compliance with patient authorizations. The Alliance will define, promote and certify a national infrastructure with common platforms and policies. It also will ensure that HIT products displaying the Alliance seal are certified to work on the national infrastructure.

“Today’s announcement represents an inflection point in health care, with key industry leaders coming together to support the delivery of a national health information exchange,” said John Hammergren, chairman and CEO, McKesson Corp. “The formation of this alliance takes health care a step closer to broad industry interoperability. North American Connectathon 2013 Provides Testing Ground for Meaningful Use Stage 2 Requirements

CHICAGO – (February 27, 2013) In an effort to advance interoperability in the U.S., IHE USA and the Health Story Project offered  Health Level Seven’s (HL7) Consolidated Clinical Document Architecture® (C-CDA) standard as part of the testing process at the IHE North American (NA) Connectathon 2013. When implemented into electronic health records (EHRs) and health information exchanges (HIEs), HL7’s C-CDA contributes a critical component of a patient’s medical record, including the physician’s progress notes, discharge summaries, and other clinical documents. U.S. physicians create over a billion clinical notes each year. These notes contain most of a patient’s clinical records, and most EHRs are not capable of integrating this type of data into their systems.

“Eighteen vendors registered to test 27 systems for C-CDA – including, a diverse group of EHR, document imaging and HIE vendors. After years of working with EHR and HIE vendors and encouraging acceptance of C-CDA document types, Health Story members are thrilled about the potential uptake of C-CDA and its role in contributing to comprehensive electronic patient stories,” said Joy Kuhl, Executive Director of the Health Story Project.

As ICD-10 Takes Main Stage, Consulting Strategies Play Leading Role

Questions about technology readiness abound while preparation for ICD-10 complexity continues to grow

Orem, Utah – February 12, 2013 – While preparation for ICD-10 intensifies, questions surrounding EMR vendor readiness and ICD-10-related technologies are surfacing. The report reveals that providers rated EMR vendors Cerner, Epic, and Siemens highest in their ICD-10 preparedness, whereas Allscripts and MEDITECH rate lowest. Among the technologies providers are utilizing for the ICD-10 transition is computer-assisted coding, which the majority of the market is looking to 3M for. This report, which will be further discussed in an upcoming live webinar hosted by KLAS, explores 3M, The Advisory Board, Allscripts, Cerner, CPSI, Deloitte, Epic, HMS, McKesson, MEDITECH, Nuance, OptumInsight, Precyse, PwC, QuadraMed, and Siemens.

Part one of this series, the KLAS report entitled ICD-10 Consulting: Roadmap to a Successful Transition, was released December 3, 2012.This report discusses how providers expect to use consulting firms in their future preparation and ICD-10 transition plans. KLAS found that the vast majority (84 percent) of providers had engaged a consulting firm for ICD-10 roadmap/gap analysis. The Advisory Board tops the ranking in this category with high praise for quality roadmaps and best-practice sharing, though findings are showing that Deloitte has the largest and most complex engagements of any firm. Training was the second most frequent type of engagement, with the Precyse University offering standing out. Orem, Utah – Feb. 7, 2013 - Emergency department physicians interviewed by KLAS cite better clinical decision support, overall usability, and accuracy of documentation as the primary reasons satisfaction with best of breed is higher than with enterprise emergency department information systems (EDIS). The results can be found in a recently published report, EDIS 2013: Revealing the Physicians’ Voice.
