Moving Health IT Forward, BCS and HIMSS Announce Joint Event in UK

HIMSS and BCS bring largest UK health informatics event to the ICC Birmingham on April 16-17, 2013

LONDON, UK – July 25, 2012 – BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, and HIMSS, the Healthcare Information Management and Systems Society, have signed a long-term agreement to combine two major healthcare IT events – HC2013 and HEALTH+ IN4MATICS – into a comprehensive national conference and exhibition.

HC2013, incorporating HEALTH+IN4MATICS, will take place April 16-17, 2013, at the ICC Birmingham. Citadel Events Ltd, in which HIMSS recently acquired an interest, will provide event management services.

The combined commitment and resources of the three organizations establishes an impressive foundation of academic, business and global healthcare experience to attract, connect and inform stakeholders involved in transforming healthcare through IT.

“This is the time for decisive action to drive forward the digital revolution in healthcare. As systems evolve, application areas expand and new policies are being implemented, the demand for education, networking and best-practice is rising sharply. Together, the BCS and HIMSS are establishing a platform of national and international relevance that connects the leaders, decision makers, implementers and users who believe that the effective application of IT in healthcare is crucial to meeting the challenge of improving quality whilst reducing cost,” said Matthew Swindells, Chair of BCS Health.

H. Stephen Lieber, President and CEO of HIMSS, commented: “We are on the brink of a new era where information is the life-blood of healthcare. The multitude of challenges and opportunities require an orchestrated approach that unites all stakeholders behind a common goal, which is to transform healthcare through IT. Today, we have made a major step forward in helping the industry efficiently and successfully manage this critical transformation process of the UK’s healthcare system.”

With the unification of the two events, HIMSS and BCS are expanding their partnership, which started earlier in 2012 with a project to introduce HIMSS Analytics EMR Adoption Model℠ to the UK.

HIMSS is a cause-based organization providing global leadership for the best use of health IT and management systems to improve healthcare delivery. In the UK, HIMSS publishes the British Journal of Healthcare Computing, Health Tech Wire and provides communications services via its wholly owned subsidiary so2say communications ltd.

BCS Health, part of the Chartered Institute of IT, has a 30-year track record of organizing Healthcare Computing under the HC name.

More information about the event will be available on the BCS and HIMSS Europe websites.
