Northrop Grumman Highlights Innovative Health Technologies, Proven Solutions at HIMSS Annual Conference – #HIMSS12

New Mobile Tablets, Predictive Modeling Systems, Analytics Applications Featured

LAS VEGAS, Feb. 16, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) will feature several of its innovative technologies and integrated solutions that are advancing the future of health care at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) 2012 Annual Conference and Exposition.

HIMSS will be held Feb. 20-24 at the Venetian Sands Expo Center, Las Vegas. Northrop Grumman demonstrations in booth 1639 will include the company’s programs in electronic health records and mobile health applications; national health systems; and health analytics and informatics.

“For more than 20 years, Northrop Grumman has combined its scientific and medical expertise with information technology to give organizations the solutions they need to achieve their missions and ensure better health outcomes,” said Amy Caro, vice president of Health IT programs for Northrop Grumman.

Northrop Grumman will showcase its mobile health applications and introduce its innovative GOmobile clinician tablet, a custom application that simplifies and streamlines the documentation of electronic records for clinicians. The application provides an intuitive interface that allows the clinician to record, view and analyze a patient’s health information and enter updates in real time from either their personal computer or tablet. Although designed for military health clinicians, the application can be customized to interact with any electronic health record. Northrop Grumman will also demonstrate the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Blue Button mobile application, an online tool that allows patients to easily access and download their health information.

Northrop Grumman presentations on the show floor also include an overview of the company’s support to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Northrop Grumman designed and developed – and operates and maintains – the National Level Repository system, which allows CMS to determine appropriate incentive payments under the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act and supports the administration and incentive payment disbursements to medical professionals, hospitals and other organizations. The company also developed a predictive modeling system to identify high-risk claims in support of CMS’ National Fraud Prevention system that helps prevent and detect fraud, waste, abuse and other improper payments under the Medicare program.

Northrop Grumman will also demonstrate its analytics and informatics capabilities, including the Integrated Health Analytics Platform (iHAP), a new analytical decision support tool that increases understanding of the systematic impacts of health diseases and health conditions to help health leaders make more informed health care policy decisions. Another application will show how a collaborative analysis of multimedia sources provides a framework for exploring disparate unstructured data feeds to help an analyst identify the potential pathogens and affected populations during a foodborne illness outbreak. Also featured will be the Hospital Acquired Infections Mobile Application, which enables all relevant electronic data to be queried from hospital systems for a patient suspected of having a hospital-acquired infection. The system helps the infection prevention specialist analyze available data, identify additional relevant data needed and suggest case identification.
