Karos Health Signs Agreement to Deploy Rialto in the Largest Diagnostic Imaging Repository Project in Ontario Canada

Karos Health, a leader in standards-based clinical information exchange and storage solutions, announced today it has signed an agreement with CGI Group Inc. to deploy Rialto Discover, a ready-made solution built on the Rialto clinical information exchange and storage platform. This news follows the recent eHealth Ontario, Canada Health Infoway and CGI announcements regarding the Diagnostic Imaging repository (DI-r) solution that will benefit 1.5 million patients and 10,000 clinicians.

The Greater Toronto Area (GTA) West DI-r Project (“GTA West DI-r”) is a joint initiative by a consortium of 20 health care facilities that span the GTA West and central Ontario.

Key facts:

  • Largest Ontario DI-r project, expected to exceed three million exams annually
  • First project in Ontario to use Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE®) Cross-Enterprise Document Sharing for Imaging (XDS-I.b) to facilitate sharing of diagnostic imaging results
  • Co-funded by Canada Health Infoway and eHealth Ontario

Karos Health will deploy Rialto Discover, which provides the critical capabilities to enable the GTA West DI-r to share diagnostic imaging studies and reports across the 20 participating health care facilities.  Rialto Discover indexes all clinical content for future discovery and retrieval and manages the cross referencing of patient identifiers between different institutions.  Both function to ensure that all of a patient’s clinical information is available to any authorized physician within the 20 health care facilities when needed.

Rialto Discover is based on the latest Cross-Enterprise Document Sharing (XDS.b) and Cross-Enterprise Document Sharing for Imaging (XDS-I.b) integration profiles from IHE and supports the Pan-Canadian Interoperability Standards in accordance with the Canada Health Infoway blueprint.

“We are proud to be chosen to provide the GTA West DI-r project with our products and services. This is an exciting project and a unique opportunity for us to demonstrate the capabilities we can offer organizations to build exchange networks based on our Rialto platform and IHE XDS,” says Rick Stroobosscher, President of Karos Health. “We are excited to work with our partners to deliver an open standards based imaging exchange network in our province,” he added.
