GE Centricity Customer Achieves Stage 1 Meaningful Use

GE Healthcare IT today announced that the Heart & Vascular Center of Arizona (HVCA) is among the first physician practices in the nation to achieve Meaningful Use with a certified EMR. HVCA reached the milestone using Centricity Practice Solution 9.5 on Monday, April 18, the first day of the attestation period.

HVCA Administrator Barbara Watkins, R.N., helped lead the practice’s six cardiologists through the process of preparing for attestation to meet Stage 1 of Meaningful Use. The practice serves more than 15,000 patients and the providers started preparing for attestation actively in fall 2010.

Heart & Vascular Center of Arizona Uses Centricity Practice Solution to Successfully Meet Threshold

GE Healthcare IT, a leading provider of information technology solutions, congratulates Heart & Vascular Center of Arizona (HVCA) as the first Centricity* customer to achieve Meaningful Use. HVCA reached the milestone using Centricity Practice Solution 9.5 on Monday, April 18, the first day of the attestation period.

“The achievement doesn’t speak as much to our ability to work with the technology as it does to our ability to work with patients,” said Barb Watkins, Administrator at HVCA. “We’re already moving beyond this accomplishment and striving to use our information technology tools to make a meaningful difference in the quality of care that we deliver to our patients.”

The Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT®) certified Centricity Practice Solution, v9.5 in October 2010 as an ONC-ATCB 2011/2012 complete EHR meeting Stage 1 criteria, a precursor to meaningful use eligibility, making it one of the first systems to meet the standards.

Centricity Practice Solution v9.5 is also a CCHIT Certified®2011 Ambulatory EHR with additional certification in Cardiovascular Medicine with Advanced Reporting and Child Health. In this independent program offering physicians greater assurance that an EHR will meet their special needs, Centricity Practice Solution also scored a five star rating in CCHIT’s usability testing, the highest awarded by the Commission.

“We are thrilled to see HVCA achieve Meaningful Use so quickly,” said Jim Corrigan, Vice President and General Manager of GE Healthcare IT. “We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the entire team at HVCA and see this milestone as a testament to the partnership we have with its staff. We look forward to helping other customers achieve Meaningful Use with the same speed and simplicity enjoyed here.”

Both Centricity Practice Solution 9.5 and 10 have attained 2011/2012 ONC-ATCB certification as a complete EHR from CCHIT®**.   GE Healthcare has several other electronic medical records products that can help customers achieve Meaningful Use.  GE Centricity Enterprise version 6.9 is 2011/2012 compliant and was certified as a complete EHR on February 17, 2011 by Drummond Group Inc.***. GE Centricity EMR version 9.5 is also 2011/2012 compliant and was certified as a Complete EHR on October 28, 2010 by the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT ®)****.  GE Healthcare also previously announced that CCHIT issued GE Centricity Advance, v10.1 GE’s web-based EMR for smaller physician practices, 2011/2012 ONC-ATCB certification as a complete EHR*****.

CCHIT and The Drummond Group made these designations in their capacity as Office of the National Coordinator – Authorized Temporary Certification Bodies (ONC-ATCBs) in accordance with the applicable eligible provider certification criteria adopted by the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS).

2011/2012 certification conferred by these agencies does not represent an endorsement of the certified EHR technology by HHS nor does it guarantee the receipt of incentive payments.
