ICSA Labs to Certify Electronic Health Record Solutions

Note: There were 2 more ONC-ATCB EHR certifying bodies announced on 12/10/10. This is the ICSA press release that I just got today.

The Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT has selected ICSA Labs to test and certify Electronic Health Records (EHRs), which are used to securely share patient information electronically between physicians, hospitals and other health care providers. As an ONC-Authorized Testing and Certification Body (ONC-ATCB), ICSA Labs can begin to test EHR solutions and, through their widespread adoption, help to advance health IT.

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Designates ICSA Labs an Authorized Testing and Certification Body

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. –The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) has designated ICSA Labs as an Authorized Testing and Certification Body (ATCB) for electronic health records (EHR), which are used to securely share patient information electronically between physicians, hospitals and other health care providers
As an ONC-ATCB certified lab, ICSA can now test and certify EHR products and solutions to ensure they meet the rigorous standards for ‘meaningful use’ mandated by the U.S. government for this class of products.

“For more than 20 years, ICSA Labs has been evaluating and certifying products and solutions,” said George Japak, managing director of ICSA Labs. “We are committed to helping companies find the most appropriate solutions. Nowhere is this more important than in the health care field, where electronic records contain sensitive and private patient information. With this authorization from ONC, we can begin to test EHR solutions, helping to advance health IT through widespread adoption.”

The ONC-ATCB authorization is the most recent recognition earned by the company. ICSA Labs is also accredited for ISO/IEC 17025:2005 and certified ISO/IEC 9001:2008. Additionally, ICSA Labs is an accredited Cryptographic and Security Testing (CST) Lab by the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP 200697-0).
